 Good morning, another forgotten to "Post"...sigh...

Currently on this Saturday...

Weather- is 47* and sunny and the temps will continue to drop today. We are under 3 weather alerts from 7pm today: Wind, Extreme Cold, Freeze. Wind will be in excess of 45 mph at times, extreme cold with that wind will be 8* to 20* windchill. You saw that right. Hang on my fellow Floridan's the next 36 hours or so will be rough.

Not enjoying- this cold weather. Like I told my husband last night, hey, didn't we move from NY to get away from this? He gave me that cuckoo for cocoa puffs look. lol

Watched-the news last night, Lottery Dream Home and Greg Gutfeld. I see the government has shut down yet again...you know...just my two cents, but both sides need to grow up. There are no more adults left, so it seems.

Because wackos want to defund ICE/DHS. Protests over Protests...just sick and needing mental help.

 

The husband-so he had his "consultation" and waited 2 hours, these dr. offices/surgical places have kiosks to check in... anyways, now he waits until once again, they (the dr. office) said probably March...in the meantime, the cataract gets worse and now, if the gvt. remains shut down, that will prolong long it even longer.

Listening to...the husband asking me (because he just woke up) if the government shut down and did the LA protesters burn down the Federal building because when he came to bed last night, they were almost there and a neighbor's dog is barking.

Thinking...

1. so, all the kitchen stuff / redo stuff remains piled piling up.

I came home the other day, and hubby was standing there grinning (???) and he goes, "Hey you didn't notice anything over there in the corner?" So, last weekend we went to my favorite consignment store, and I saw this beautiful blue marble island on wheels for sale...way out of my financial means ($350). ANYWAYS, he apparently snuck one over me and it was delivered the other day. He did not pay $350, he paid $200 total with delivery. He said since I shop there a lot (oh oh) the owner gave us/him a deep discount.

It has a drawer for pots and pans. Everything is on hold right now due to our "guy" who is working a bigger job. It's ok.

2. Homework...since there was yet another crisis to solve (walked into a mess yesterday) I had to bring my lesson planning home. Which is a big personal no no for me. But here we are...I will only lesson plan for the upcoming week and will allow myself a week-to-week basis. The bossman and I were talking, I am NOT that person to be 4 weeks ahead, sorry. Nope. Hopefully things will calm down enough and all this running around will cease to exist, righttttttttt? (I said this to him) He said, "Sure" not very convincing.🙄

3. Do I really need to be "productive" today. No, I don't think so. I do at some point need to get gas in my truck for the week.

Feeling-unmotivated.

Dinner--is it too early to plan? Putting on a pot (does crock pot count?) of chili. Why? Because its cold.

 Wait, it's Thursday? Already? Where did the week go?

HA! Nothing to really talk about, I see the USA/we are headed for another government shutdown. Crazy nonsense. Just my two cents on that subject. Seeing how I have nothing to say, I bid you adieu and snapshot of the blouse I am wearing today, although it is mighty cold to wear a silky blouse.

Cold Hodgepodge...

 Good morning, sorry for not posting. Onward to the Hodgepodge.

1. I live in the south so we're pretty much only talking about the weather right now. Give us a weather report from where you live. Does the kind of weather you're having today affect your mood in some way? Ugh...Florida is freezing. 32* at 7:12 am and we are headed into a very deep freeze by Sunday. It is dangerously cold. I have been wearing heavy sweaters that I had in storage --never really thought I would need them, but here we are.

2.  Avocados, kale, cauliflower and cottage cheese have all had their time to shine. 2026 brings us the year of the cabbage. Is this a vegetable you like? If so, what are some of your favorite dishes that call for cabbage?

The meeting went well yesterday, and I go back to 7-3:30 starting Monday. Surprise, also, I am switching classes with another teacher, and she is taking my class---I do know the reasoning behind this...and I will leave it alone--as the other person is not very happy. We both have been evaluated extensively--and that figured into the move. So, no more running around with my head cut off, I have 2 solid classes starting on Monday. The other person, she is not happy.

Good morning from a balmy central Florida.

...and for Pete's sake (whoever that is) sounding like a repeat parrot and falling into the trap of nothing to say...yada, yada...

...Weather it will be 85* today and the ac is on because when we got home yesterday, it was very humid and the house said 82*. We thought it would cool off last night and didn't. So, on the ac went this morning. No worries, the bottom will fallout tomorrow here. Because of...Fern...just wondering what kind of name is Fern? I feel for those who live in the path of the storm, truly I do. Been there & done that for 9 yrs. while living in upstate NY. So not willing to do it again. And apologies, because when I wrote that post early yesterday, there was not a name.

...Because of the humidity...sigh... I made pizza late yesterday evening and it was just not right-the dough never really rose. I think the humidity played a bit part of it. Sometimes the weather does play a part in the baking--or the oven is just going. Hubby doesn't want to hear that part.😉

...The kitchen plans/redo are put on hold until hubby can get the cataract fixed. Besides, our "guy" is behind on another job, and that is ok.

...Watching Fox News and tried watching other news stations. I/we just couldn't stomach it. Being married to a former Military Policeman, all I will say is this, the dumbness of some elected officials is just gob smacking nitwitted something else and those stupid whistles. So not going to entertain anonymous. Ok. Ok. 👌

...Grateful for a great day yesterday. We stopped at a nice place called Mossy Oaks Antiques Belleview. They have a FB page-they actually have two physical locations. The ladies that run it, are very friendly, nice, very talkative and the prices are really great too. What did we buy?

many years ago, while in visiting a Mennonite restaurant in upstate NY, they had these for sale, unfortunately at the time, I couldn't afford it as they are rather pricey running from $100 on up.

...Thinking tomorrow is Monday. Back to work and also thinking of bringing out my heavy winter jacket as I really don't like being cold. LOL--the next 2 weeks look to be darn right chilly here in central Florida. I also need to catch up on laundry and clean out the fridge/wipe it down. Will the latter get done? I doubt it, but it's a nice thought. lol

Hmm...Saturday

 Good morning. I know all the rage right now is about that winter storm. Of course, I am wondering, no name? They always name them. What's up with that? 🙄

Here in the land of sunshine, palm trees, lollipops and unicorns, all is fine (I made those last two up).🤣

Weather...currently 57* & partly cloudy at 7:10 am. Today is supposed to be 78*, yesterday was quite warm and humid with thoughts of having to turn the central ac on, in January. Which honestly, I am not too keen on. It's January. No worries, by Monday night it will be 29*, thanks y'all northerners for that cold. Y'all can keep it🤣.

On that thought...in a few short months we will be in hurricane season. So sorry for the winter storm, been there, done that, lived through it. NOT ever going to do it again. Some of you might be happy to know the Atlantic water temp in Daytona is only 64*, way too cold.

Enjoying...the bit of warmth before it gets cold again. Soon, I will be complaining about the extreme humidity. Us humans are never happy, right?

Watching/watched...The only thing I remember from last night was I got through Jesse Watters and started Lottery Dream Home and that was it, Apparently allegedly, I fell asleep.

On my phone camera...these cute placemats that was in one of the boxes my mom gave me.

I probably should have picked up the lacy one before I took the photo. No worries, the round ones will be on the table after Valentines Day.

Thinking...

--hubby just asked me what we were doing today. DOING? was my question back to him. I was joking. I know we have to put gas in my truck, run to a few places. Our usual things.

--Taxes. Need to get that around to file. The gvt. took out $10,000 in taxes etc. from me. Yikes, I hate to see what tax bracket I am going to be in and how much I am paying.

--Another work meeting was called for Tuesday. Me thinketh it might have to do with a suggestion I made. Long story short, I am contracted for 3 hours of teaching my class, and I am not getting 3 hours due to count and chow. Anyways, that was noticed and so far, my boss has kept the vultures out...but they continue to circle. ANYWAYS, I made a simple suggestion of changing my hours (yet again) back to 6:30-2:30 and have class from 7-10 and that leaves me to teach the other 2 classes (I am not contracted for). The lightbulb moment from him was amazing. However, that leaves a coworker/ the technology teacher having to schedule her classes differently. That didn't go over well with her...nonetheless, I believe the meeting will be productive either way. Give and take. She was ordered to make it work and come up with a plan by Tuesday, we shall see come Tuesday. I share an office with her, and I know all of this because she is very vocal about it, LOL. "THANKS CONLEY!!!!" is all I have heard...Come Feb. 1, we have a set curriculum so things will be much easier. Growing pains is what I call it. The education dept. has grown so much in the last year and continues to evolve.

So, yeah...

 First, good morning. It has been a crazy, tiring 2 days around here.

There was no surgery yesterday. Oh, they took him in and la de da, it's not Retinal Detachment, it's a cataract and since he was approved for the Retinal surgery, we now have to get approval for the Cataract. Crazy insurance. However, since late yesterday, we found out it was approved. So, hurray. He has a consultation next Thursday and then hopefully Friday or so, he will have it done. 😁

Hey, look what's missing...the falling down mobile home / drug house that was there on the corner. Beautiful. Anyways, since there was no surgery, we went to an early lunch (since we were close to the Spanish Springs Villages), went to Marshalls (nothing bought), then their Walmart where I did buy some things, Milk, Rose Water spray (for my face), and some other items such as these:

I haven't had these since leaving upstate NY. Oh, and I did buy some Krispy Kreme donuts, which I/we have never seen at Walmart before. And it saddens me to say this, but I did eat two donuts. Sorry, I just had a hankering for donuts😉.

That's all I got for the day. Have a beautiful day all, back to work for me. The hubby said I was driving him nuts. 🤣😁😉

Currently Thursday...

 Good morning, not as cold as it has been. We are expecting temps back into the 80's for the weekend and then the bottom drops out Monday, yet again.

Yep, Friday Jr. The procedure yesterday went fine. This morning, we have to head down to Leesburg (30 miles south--51 min.) for his eye...I am hoping and praying they will do the procedure today and not have to drive back. We both are feeling/find out the older we get the more we don't really want to drive far/anywhere.

Currently...

Weather-53* with showers in the vicinity.  High of 77* today.

Thinking-

Once the body gets cold, it stays cold. Even though it was pretty warm outside yesterday, it was super cold in the Endoscopy Center.

Hey, so glad I don't live up north anymore, I see what's coming for you those that live above Georgia. Yikes. Buckle up. The snow won't affect us here in Florida, but the temps will. Double yikes, it's going to get cold.

1. Ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, playing in the snow, or a snowy walk...which winter activity do you choose? Hmm...snowy walk, probably. Have you done any of these activities so far this winter? Umm...nope not in Florida.

5.  A frozen lake, a trickling stream, a raging river, or a deep well...which one describes something about your life right now? Hmm...well, since I work in a prison, I say raging river and a deep well always, LOL. Elaborate as much or as little as you like. Shrugging it is what it is. High stress but that is why I get paid the big bucks, LOL. Gosh, I better stop or I will fall out of my chair-laughing so hard.

Tuesday Meme

  Good morning. I am so over this cold...but probably in June I will be over the extreme humidity lol. Back to work today and then off tomorrow for the hubbys surgery. I might just take the rest of the week off, might have too if the eye surgeon calls.

1. Where did your mother and father grow up? They grew up in the southside of Chicago in a little village called Lansing. They took a drive up there a few months ago and my dad said it's not what it used to be, and it is being overrun by illegal immigrants. He said it's sad. I do have fond memories of Lansing.

2. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Lansing until I was 6-7 yrs old and then we moved here to Ocala. My mother got to the point she hated the winters in Chicago.

3. What was your favorite meal your mother made? Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. But when she made Sarma (my paternal grandmothers' recipe) that was the best. We were discussing this the other day and my dad said, "I haven't had that in years, maybe the next time you make it, bring me some."

What is your favorite recipe to make? Sarma...love the beef and rice rolled in cabbage. Reminds me of my grandma.

4. What are the advantages you enjoy where you live? What is there not to like about Florida? The Gulf and Atlantic are less than an hour away. There are no state income taxes, etc. However, I will say Ocala is very busy and crowded and not the place I knew growing up.

But all in all, after our son passed away and we found ourselves back here, it has been good to us. No complaints.

Currently a cold Monday morning...

 Good morning, friends! I hope this post finds each of you in great spirits. So, let's get right to it.

The Weather...like I said, it's a currently cold 29* Monday morning here in central Florida. Up in the panhandle, they got snow yesterday, here, we got pouring rain. It was nasty out and we were out in it. Just cold and nasty. That's not a complaint; it's just the plain truth. It was more like a hurricane on steroids-heavy winds and heavy rain.

As I look outside...the dreariness of winter has hit us. The grass looks like ice crystals, and everything is white. Beautiful, but no thanks.

Listening to...my husband, "Linda! The sun is gone!" At first, I was like what? He is joking...yeah, there is no sun out yet. Just plain cold.🙄

This morning, I am... it's a day off thanks to it being MLK Day. Although, we went to the store yesterday, the one thing I needed and forgot, was coffee creamer. Oops. I really don't want to go out and probably won't. So, being bundled up will be my morning.

What I am wearing...if you must know, nothing matching. Flamingo pj bottoms, black pullover, black and white checkered sweater and sock slippers that are pink.

Around the house...

since the kitchen remake/redo has been put on hold...the new countertops and sink sit there. It's ok.

From my camera/Around the house...and one of the reasons why we went out yesterday and this was after my post yesterday of planning on not doing anything...

1. My mother called and said she had stuff for me that she had put away and wanted to know if I wanted it.

3 boxes of "stuff".

In one of the boxes, were the jugs and some silk flowers. Mom, "I know you're leaning towards the French-Scandinavian style kitchen, so I just thought I would throw some stuff in there." Stuff was definitely the word of the day. We had also discussed the kitchen plans. Because somehow, I forgot about the drawer pulls. LOL

2. And I did not take photos, but their fireplace was on and I was so happy to stand there and get dried off and get warm. My mom was quite gleeful to see her 58-year daughter standing there like a child. LOL. I am sure it was quite a sight to see. It was quite blissful and I might even had said that.

3. To make a very long story short. My husband has been cutting the grass at an abandoned property to the entrance of our neighborhood. FINALLY, after months of the sherifs dept. being called by all of us, it is being torn down etc. Come to find out there were 2 mobile homes on that property. Whoever has been there for the last few days working hard.

Yay! What an eyesore and blight on the neighborhood. Goodbye, don't let the door hit ya. 

4. I did pick up some more eyeshadow sticks. Love, love these.

Long gone are the days of wild colors...I prefer the neutral/natural colors. My makeup habits have changed throughout the years. No one wants to see a 58-yr old woman looking like a clown, LOL.

My to do list...can you believe nothing? Nothing. I told hubby forget it; I am not going out. I got cold and wet yesterday and spent the late afternoon-evening covered in a blanket to recover. I am too old for this, was my thought. Just keeping it real. I guess I could have waited to go out, but we needed dog food and some other items (Hubby had a long list of items he needed to get for his upcoming esophagus surgery--which the prep seems similar to a colonoscopy). So, yeah, we ventured out in the nasty weather. Should have / could have known better.  ---I did sit there all last evening and watched way too many Midsomer Murder episodes and a delightful movie called Miss Willoughby and the Haunted Bookshop. I think the lazy's hit. Bigly. LOL

Currently...Joy of Just Living

 Good morning, after a warmer day yesterday, we are back to chilly weather and much needed rain and another freeze warning. Thank you for your kind words on yesterday's post.💕

Currently...Joy of Just Living. So, this thought came to me yesterday...I do think we (as a collective whole) are just plain tired...between the busyness of life, 24-hour news, employment, family/home obligations and so on. The joy of just living shouldn't be just about those things and even pretending everything is ok. Because, if you were being honest with yourself, you would know to just stop and change all that pressure you put yourself under. It's ok to just say No and / or give yourself a time out. I think our brains have been programmed to feel guilty -- if we are not constantly doing something productive until finally one collapses into bed.

So, slow down...smell that coffee or flowers, watch a movie (or two), sit in front of the tv all day, read a book, eat a cookie (or two or three)...just relax. It's ok. Take a deep breath, it will be ok...enjoy doing nothing, besides, do you really need to stay busy to enjoy life?

Disturbing News...

 Good morning and another cold morning here, actually, it never warmed up yesterday. I know some of you are laughing at the "cold" part. Yesterday, when I left for work at 8 am it was 28* with heavy frost. Now on to the disturbing and shocking news...

Hubby had his regular eye appointment and now he has to see a surgeon asap due to a detached retina. How did this happen? No one knows. He said he has been seeing circles for a couple of days etc. He had been lifting something heavy when this happened. Anyways, this coming week he has esophagus surgery and then the eye surgery. So, the kitchen will wait until he feels betters--luckily nothing has been done. Our contractor, bless him, is ok with all this. He is on strict orders to rest, no heavy lifting, no bright sunlight, no straining etc., no driving etc. One word that probably fits is scared. So, if I could, asking for prayers. We are just going to hunker down this weekend. 

Yeah...I was so cold yesterday and into the evening. This cold is crazy. I had to laugh, even hubby has his flannel pj's on and he goes, "Yeah, I vote nothing today." (me--like you were going to do anything, you're on strict orders, buddy.)--I am so glad the winter season doesn't last long here in Florida. I am just done with it already. Think, I loved having cold and snow 4 years ago, now, not so much. Oh, speaking of snow, it seems Florida might just see snow flurries tomorrow. Ha...Well, that's all I have for now. Currently Friday...dropping the mic

 Good morning from a very cold 27* central Florida. Yikes, is it cold.

Weather...clear & 27*. That is also the real feel. Under a freeze warning.

Been doing...work. Work. Work. I did mention work, right?

Thinking...yesterday was our "teacher workday" which consisted of a meeting at 8 am --so that is why I didn't post. By the time I got home Wednesday night from work, I ate dinner and went right to bed. Because I had to leave the house by 6:30 to get there on time. Because of security and all...

*So, we now have set curriculum which will be implemented on Feb. 1 and all of us will be teaching the GED complete with book and page numbers. Mind you, I have literacy students/inmates.

* I have for the sake of a mentally sound mind, to switch classroom locations. The one I share an office with is just flipping mad cuckoo for cocoa puffs. It has come to the attention of higher ups that she has been interrupting my class time. She still has not sought help for her depression and grief. So, I might just get my own office after all...who knows. sigh.

*Yesterday's meeting was also about the fact that we do work in a very high-risk job. Seeking help is not a frown upon, as a matter of fact, it is very much highly desirable to seek help etc. as suicide rates are high, are as crimes against officers and educators are at an all-time high. The stuff I personally deal with every day, would make your skin crawl.

Now, I am really going to drop that mic, so to speak.

Rolling into the Hodgepodge...

 Good morning, last day of semi chilly weather than the bottom drops out tomorrow-Friday at temp's wind chill at-20. You heard that right. It will be darn right cold here in central Florida for about 48 hours into like Monday. Bundle up my fellow Floridians.

1. What kind of winter person are you-snow lover, fireplace snuggler, winter adventurer, or indoor hibernator? Elaborate. All the above. However, since being back here in Florida for 4 years now, I find myself loving the warmth, just not in the summer months. LOL

2. The Pantone color of the year is cloud dancer, described as a gentle, billowy off-white shade. The color symbolizes 'peace, clarity, quiet reflection, renewal, and a soft reset'. Of the terms just listed which do you need most in your life this winter? 

All the above. Especially professionally...in my private life, more of a renewal and peace. When I come home, I don't care to hear from the tv or phone calls bad language or whatever is going on in the world. I deal with enough bad stuff throughout the day. 

3. Every cloud has a silver lining, on cloud nine, head in the clouds, storm clouds gathering, or cloud of suspicion...which 'cloud' idiom do you most relate to currently? Explain. 

Hmm...me thinketh way deep in my bones, storm clouds are a gathering and there is nothing I can do about it. This one, I will have to let it play out and pray there is a silver lining. That goes for both professional and what is going on in the world arena.

4. coconut, cauliflower, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, onions, ranch dressing...of the white foods listed, which would be the hardest for you to give up? onions Do you like all or any of the foods on the list?  ick on ranch dressing except for chicken wings and ick on cottage cheese, nasty. LOL

Well, I really don't have the time to really decipher what it means...but yes, I agree. I think one has to have the bad to have the good.

Well, the new microwave got delivered at 7 am and I really didn't realize how big this is/was LOL--and I really hate that the hubby and the contractor will be working in extreme cold temps the next few days putting in the new kitchen and I am under no illusion it will be done by Sunday--however, it is a small area, so who knows. right? I do know there is a soft spot on the flooring between the sink and stove that will need to be fixed. And the deep thought of "opening a can of worms" comes to mind. 😂

Tuesday Meme

 Good morning. Thank you all for the kind comments on yesterday's post. What you don't see are broken cabinets, floors that are warped etc. It's Tuesday so that means the Tuesday meme.

Can we talk about housekeeping and chores today since January was usually the time for white sales and replacing linens and towels for the household.

1. My mother ironed sheets and pillowcases. I iron the cases but not the sheets.  I feel that the cases feel better after ironing and I like the fancy ruffles etc. to look better.  What do you do? I like to hang the sheets on the line outside. Is ironing a waste of time for you? Sometimes

2. A few friends really enjoy ironing.  Are there any articles of clothing you iron? Just my blouses and do you send clothing to the dry cleaner? Nope

3.  Home is enhanced by good cooking, clean rooms, freshly made beds, quilt and the lovely touches women bring to things. What special touches do you put on your home to make it special, cozy and warm? All the above and I like the candle waxes that you can melt in those warmers because it makes the whole house smell nice.

4. Do you recall Mom or Grandma sprinkling and ironing clothing? Yep Was there a laundry day set aside and an ironing day?  I can't remember, it was probably Saturdays. What is washday like at your house? No, our is done daily. Just like to stay on top of it etc.

Monday already?

 Good morning from a very chilly 39* central Florida, whoever turned on the freezer, turn it off, lol.

I had forgotten to show the new sink. Our old sink is only 6 inches deep and this one is like 9.

We decided on a single sink. He wanted more countertop room. This will be the last week of the current kitchen. Work begins on Friday, and I am assured it will be done by Sunday.

embarrassed to show this...but the truth is the truth.

Currently Sunday...

Starting off another day very foggy and the temps are supposed to start dropping sometime today. Cold colder weather is on its way this coming week.

Weather...65* dense fog and rain is supposedly allegedly on its way🤣.

Watched...what did we watch...we were out until after 4 yesterday...thinking...oh got caught up on this seasons Main Cabin Masters, In with the Old and then The Mark Levin Show. I was in bed by 9:30.

What we had for late lunch/early dinner Saturday...

We stopped at Big Lee's BBQ, and I had the Carolina Bull. Pulled pork with coleslaw and Carolina gold sauce and mac. & cheese. And for one brief moment I was back home in Sweet Home Alabama. It's funny how certain things can bring back memories, right? Been thinking about Alabama a lot lately...probably because that is where we will be buried.

Thinking...

1. We stopped at Home Depot for hubby to show me the beautiful Butcher Block and the cabinets and then, I changed my mind...and for once, hubby was not flabbergasted or upset.

decided to go with a laminate Formica countertop. The lovely Butcher Block, well, I just didn't think it was going to work with what I had in mind design wise. Anyways, this came home with us:

It's called Calcutta and looks almost like granite. Two 6 footers a total of $350. It was cheaper than the Butcher Block (which I did not get photo of).

...and then hubby suggested we get an over the stove microwave (to save counter space) to match the stove, which was an extra cost that was not planned. So, that will be delivered this week, and Vince aka the contractor aka cabinet guy and my husband will begin tearing out the old kitchen this coming Friday. I didn't get a photo of the cabinets, but they are "shaker" cabinets, and they will have to be painted. AND a dishwasher is out of the question due to having to get an electrician to rewire the electric and a permit, yep...and that is just a real extra expense. So, no dishwasher. By the way, the folks at Home Depot are really nice and patient, the manager even was kind enough to get my husband signed up for the military discount and that saved us $100 and everything was on sale, so all in all, we did save a lot of money.

2. Then, we dropped everything off at home, went back out to the dreaded store. I was only supposed to come home with coffee pods, right? Yeah...$150 later...sigh. It's just never ending...

What's on tap today? Nothing. Absolutely nothing, maybe laundry, but that is it and if it's not raining, hubby will BBQ out. 

Making me laugh, because it's so true.

Grass? What's grass? LOLOL

So very true...after a few days, let's get back to warmth lol.
