Weather...ha, I bet y'all are tired of reading this nonsense. At 7:25 am 80* and real feel is 88*. Another scorcher for the day.

Reading/Watching...not reading anything...does textbooks count? No... watching...nothing really. I haven't really had time to get caught up on YouTube.

Wearing: Khaki capris, black short sleeve blouse, and polka dotted flip flops, yep, for work.

Not enjoying...Yesterday (well, honestly the last 3 days) have been so hot. The ac went out in the portable yesterday. By 4 pm I was done...I cancelled classes, emailed Maintenace yet again, emailed the boss and I left. Sorry, boss, but it was 89* in the portable and 113* outside. The inmates were cranky and so was I. And yep, I told him that.

We desperately need some sort of relief from this weather. 

Can you believe?

I know, tomorrow...can you believe it's the last day of July? Nope, nor can I... entering the hurricane season. Usually, it starts really cranking up August-October.

That's all I got...how boring is that? Just the same ole. lol

 Good morning...joining in on the Hodgepodge.

1. On July 29th 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as it's host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of 'who is Stephen Colbert? 

Like I can stay up late to watch late night shows...and I am at work during the day...and who really cares about Colbert (not Colbear like he tells people).

2. What's the best part of your day?

 

5:53 when I get to clock out. LOL--    and when I pull in the driveway at 6:45.

3. What's something your generation does that you actually dislike? 

You know...women who wear tanks or spaghetti strap tops...seriously, who wants to see all that? I should be quiet, because since hades has descended on us here in Florida, I have been known to wear this, LOLOL. Not to work, that is not allowed. So, anyways, since moving back here, I have thrown out those "norms" of dress when going on. I ain't got the time to get all dressed up especially in hades weather. So, shorts and tanks. Deal with it. LOL 

4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you're finished cooking? Clean I as go. What's the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen? Hmm...last weekend I made tacos.

yesterday's real feel was 113* as well as the temp. Since I have to leave the portable to go unlock the gate for inmates/students, I did let them know that the bad witch cannot keep coming outside to unlock the gate and one of them said, "But Ms. Conley you're not the bad witch, your Glenda the Good Witch." I almost fell out laughing. ANYWAYS, Florida has opened the gates of hades. And I think it's safe the majority of folks have had enough.

This Weather...

 This weather is for the birds.

It has been digits in temp and in humidity; its already 89* at 7:26 am. I say mother nature needs a time out, perhaps a good old fashion tropical system? I know, don't wish that...but man, this weather has to go. 

Ha! So, hubby called me yesterday and goes, "Guess what I 'm doing?" Yeah, he was in the pool, I told him I was hanging up on him and I might had called him a moron. Way to rub it in. That is just plain cruel😎. He thought it was funny. Here, I am slaving away teaching two classes, going in and out to let inmates in and out and he is sitting in the pool. Yeah, whatever. 😉

Amen to that. LOL--Wishing you all a beautiful day, that is all I got...I am just too lazy to do the blog memes. lol

Some Things I Love and Don't...

 

I was floating away in the pool late yesterday, looking at the great oaks and these gigantic birds (Egrets, Herons and Ibis's) that have been eating the bird seed and the thought came to me "Some Things I Love and Don't Love"...ok then...just random stuff I was thinking...(gosh, y'all should just be scared now, lol)

 I am forever grateful for each of the people who comment here and truly appreciate the kind comments...truly warms my heart. Most of you I have never met in person, some I have and some of you even snail mail. Each of you add something to this thing called life. Truly, I am blessed. So, thank you.

Hunting for bargains. Hubby wanted to go to the local Goodwill yesterday, much to my "ugh" and whining of the 111* and hot and bothered I was and how much I wanted to go home and get in the pool...lol

Found a sugar bowl and creamer to add to my Uranium collection for $6...I really need to stop this. It is like a drug and become all giddy when I find pieces. LOL

The way our local Walmart is located (thanks to a median) hubby wanted McDonalds, and we couldn't get to it...so he pulled into Sonic. Wow, ok...after my initial thought of "Ugh fast food"--that was one of the best hamburgers I have had. Very surprising. I usually don't eat when it's this hot/humid. But I gotta tell you, it was really good. I like a good messy hamburger and that my friends, was a good messy hamburger. Forget Mc'D's or even Burger King. Sonic had it going on.

Relaxing in the late evenings. What did we watch on tv? Maine Cabin Masters and Mark Levin.

Youtube. I just love The Scottish Isle, Danu's Irish Herb Garden, Bealtaine Cottage, A Joyful Cottage, The Irish Homestead, Living the Skye Life, Itchy Boots, Kirsten and Jorge---on that note, I spend a ridiculous amount of time getting caught up watching YouTube on the weekends. I am also thankful that they all respond to comments. How nice...truly it is.

Loving Oui yogurt from Yoplait. They come in glass jars. Love, love, love this French style yogurt. It does not bother my stomach. 

Not Loving

The crazy humidity here in Florida. This morning at 8 am it is already 93* real feel (regular temp. is 83*)--almost time to head out to the pool.

The traffic. Come on folks, you northern folks need to go home, please. It's crazy, it takes nearly 30 minutes to get anywhere.

Speaking of traffic, whoever designed the traffic patterns and signals here, need to get their heads checked. Just saying.

The no see ums (?) tiny little insects. Just ugh.

So, the Love outweigh the bad...lol

Hubby suggested I take a mental health day...usually we don't go to the beach until after hurricane season. Anyways, going to try to take a day in August. Yes, I am feeling a bit grumpy and snarky, not as bad because we have a pool...but still...

Sharing Four Somethings: Last Saturday of July

 Good Saturday morning! Another hot one on tap for us here in central Florida temps and humidity levels will be in the triple digits, yet again. At 8:25 am it is already 87* for the real feel.

So, I am going to sit in my virtual cafe and write this blog. Sharing Four Somethings: 

Last Saturday in July...

some things I have loved...spending the weekends in the pool. Today, not so much. I have neglected procrastinated far too long on getting my haircut. So, yeah, I have enjoyed being in the pool and just floating away all my troubles and worries.

something I have learned...The first thing that crosses my mind is, am I superwoman? So, here a few things...

 

Professional: No, not really. My day job has me moving all day--thinking all day on my feet etc. So, the thing I have learned, is that I am adaptable to whatever gets thrown at me. Got to change with that proverbial wind...so whichever way the wind blows, I gotta go with it. I had another program thrown at me, which will be developed in the next few weeks. Whoever I ticked off charmed has really thrown me a curve ball, so to speak. But with help, the program will get kicked off...sure, just add it to your already busy schedule. Everything will be just fine, Ms. Conley. We know you can do this Ms. Conley. I almost wanted to salute this person and say "Yes, ma'am." LOL

Personal: One just cannot allow the little things in life get you down. One has to learn learning to let it go and mean it. 

Which means...keep the professional and personal separate. No means no...no means no I am not going to do lesson plans or read this new 85-page program guidelines etc. at home. I'm not getting paid to do so. Period.

somethings that went well...the re start-up of Mandatory Literacy class. I am hoping and praying it remains so. Trying to teach grown adults, let alone, inmates to read, write etc. is very challenging. 

something I need to let go of...grandeur of living in a regular stick/brick/concrete/mortar house. I really need to let it go but finding it more difficult to do so. Although interest rates have gone done, housing has not, especially here in our county. We have new neighborhoods going up all the time...hubby refuses to live in a gated cookie cutter community, period. What brings these thoughts on about living in a regular house? As I look around, our mobile home needs things done...and honestly, I really don't want to put money into a mobile home, period. Anyways, I need to let it go. That is the million-dollar question (ha, I don't have a million dollars and if I did, that would find this old girl in retirement living at the beach, lol).

Ain't got nothing...answering some comments

 Good morning...

I ain't got nothing on this Thursday morning...wait, how can it be Thursday already? Let's see, how about I answer some comments?

Cedar Key- sits on the Gulf of America and it was pretty much wiped-out last year due to a series of Hurricanes and a devastating fire. It is an hour drive west of here. When walking into Cedar Key, it is like you're walking off the face of the Earth. 

Our friends walking and my husband in front facing our friends. Cedar Key was such a lovely little village right on the Gulf.

Umbrellas--Yes, we are allowed umbrellas, blunt tip ones. However, the rain has been so heavy umbrellas have been no use whatsoever.

Pamela-- mentioned Crescent Beach in St. Augustine. We haven't been yet but here is a video of it. Crescent Beach is an hour and half drive from here.

Yes, folks Florida is that flat. We are only 98 feet above sea level hence the hurricanes and flooding. The Gulf is an hour drive, and the Atlantic (St. Augustine-Daytona and hour to an hour half) and Miami is 5 hours.

Wet clothes--yes, had to sit in wet clothes. No extra clothing is allowed on compound for the fear of inmates taking items. We have a very strict list of items that can be or not bought in. 

Another stormy day...when I looked out the class/portable window yesterday afternoon, the sky was an awesome deep purple, almost black. I'll tell you, the storms here as of late have been oddly very intense. This afternoon promises more of that.

Flip flips--and I do wear flip flops (mainly Sketchers sandals) every day. I refuse to wear heels or real shoes and since I carry a dr. note because of my arthritis, I can wear them. Besides, this is Florida, right? 

...and one last thing, I love the late Jimmy Buffet. He wrote some great books. I am waiting for the new Jimmy Buffet license plate:

The Hodgepodge

 Good morning...can you believe the real feel temp is already 88* at 7 am.

1. When does time pass slowly for you? 

Right now...not having students...the last 2 days of not being overly productive. sigh.

When does time past quickly for you? 

Every single day...here we are in the middle of July--well almost at the end of it. It sure seems that time is quickly flying...and it seems hard to believe it will be 4 yrs since our son passed away and we moved back here, and I have worked for the prison for that long too.

2. Do you have a favorite beach? I prefer Flagler

But we often go to Daytona because where my husband likes to park, they have restrooms and showers and water/fountain park so when he gets tired of the beach, he can head up and sit up there. And if I was being perfectly honest, I actually prefer Cedar Key on the Gulf of America, both are about an hour drive.

What's your favorite 'beach' activity? Just sitting there doing nothing.

3. Your favorite book or movie with a beach setting? Not really favorites...

Book-there is a trilogy-saga by Joanne Demaio called The Seaside Saga

Movie-probably South Pacific 

4. What's a food you love, but find it's a pain to eat? Steamed crabs or lobster...Is it worth it? pain yes, but well worth it.

5.  Do you like roller coasters? Use too. What's the best (or worst) roller coaster you've been on? I used to love wooden roller coasters. I haven't been on one in a long time.

ain't that the truth...and I wasn't the only one either. The majority of us were soaked all day long. As I walked by offices, it became apparent I was not the only one.

Boy, did it storm all day yesterday. That.is.an.understatement. The prison was on restricted movement/lockdown due to the bad weather and the constant thunderstorms and lightening and the monsoons. No students, no teaching etc. What did I do for the 8 hrs.? Well, the biggest mistake I made was having to go make copies. Since the classroom and office is in a portable, and there is no covered walkway, I soon became a drowned rat-no umbrella was helping. So, I stayed wet all day, then I sat there in my chair when I came back and did in-service--every year we have in-service testing to do. I got 40% of that done. It was plum miserable. ANYWAYS, this afternoon looks to be the same.

Good morning from a rumbly central Florida...well...storming now.

 

Currently...

Weather...storming like crazy. Hope it stops by the time I leave at 8:30. Real feel 88*.

Drinking...my one and only cup of coffee with Italian Sweet cream.

Reading/Watching...nothing. I fell into bed at 8 pm last night.

Invaded a space...well, the Vocational teacher left, so guess who is tasked with taking over until they hire someone? Yep...so I invaded his former office space and commandeered it. Peace and quiet yesterday for 8 hours straight...well, the IT teacher came in and checked on me, but other than that, wonderful peace and quiet, got the lesson planning done. I will get his students today and tomorrow 23 students will be assigned to me for Literacy. 3 hrs. with Vo tech and 3 hrs. with my class and that leaves 2 hrs. of lesson planning.

AI...so, my thoughts on this. I did venture out of my comfort zone and used it for a few lessons; however, I think I prefer doing the work myself. I am just not comfortable with "whatever" thinking for me. I am reminded by the Terminator movie, LOL.

This and That...

 Good morning, the real feel is 86* at 6:40 am. Just some this or that on this early Monday morning.

NO, I didn't have croissants, I had toast with Apricot jam. That sure looks good though.

So...I am pretty sure I mentioned this before...when I was hired on in the Education Dept. I knew I was going to be this "substitute teacher". And that is ok...normally I don't like hanging around in one place for too long. I have spent the last 5 months getting to know other teaching positions etc. Now, I am heading back to my former position Mandatory Literacy, and honestly, it is my baby. 

AI...I am not so sure about this...and I totally agree with you, Faith. Although, the students/inmates cannot access it. I will give it a try today...I am just so use to preparing my own lessons, mountains of paperwork, mounds of research etc.

So the Gaines..."Back to the Frontier"--have y'all seen the show? We watched the second one yesterday...Something is just off...they are featuring a same sex couple on that show, and I bring that up because Chip said, "“Judge 1st, understand later/never,” he continued. “It’s a sad sunday when ‘non believers’ have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian💔.” (quote from X)--

Weather...I am sure y'all are tired of hearing about our weather. 78* real feel 91*, yep at 8 am. We did have a pretty awesome / impressive storm yesterday evening.

Doing/Done/Watching...after spending 3 hours in the pool, I promptly showered the chlorine off and then sat on the couch all day and all evening until 10pm. We watched a marathon and got caught up on:

Loving/Enjoying...just being lazy and enjoying wasting away in the pool. No worries, nothing to think about etc.

Did see/Think...Florida has reported 5 brain eating amoeba deaths thanks to the very warm Gulf and Atlantic. It does enter us humans from a small cut etc. Once, many moons ago, I fell seriously ill from this. It took some time to recover.  Florida waters: The Gulf is 85* and the Atlantic is 86*. Ripe for hurricanes/storms.  ANYWAYS, hubby goes, "So, the pool looks better and better, right?" 😂 

--Although our pool is a very warm 87*, but the water is clear and treated. 

Thinking...trying to not think about heading back to work tomorrow. He is giving me a few days to get lesson plans and the classroom set up before students/inmates enter back in. The State of Florida also has gone to AI--so really, all I have to do is put the title in of a lesson and off it goes and gives me a lesson plan. A little bit of me thinks that is cheating. Many many changes...

Dinner...hubby is already thinking of dinner. He is getting the grill around for Ribs and Chicken today.

Grateful...for the weekends...although I do have to get my rear in gear and take some classes and the state exams. To which, I have been avoiding/procrastinating. I have very little ambition to give any "me" time to doing so.

 Good morning, can you believe it is 79* at 7 am? Yep...anyways, onward to this past weeks Memes.

In the 1930s two favorite sandwiches were ham, pickles and mustard and tuna with rice, capers, pepper and paprika.  I think it probably needed mayo! Sandwiches can be a simple peanut butter and jelly or a classy Monte Cristo.

1. What is your favorite sandwich and how do you make it? Just a plain bologna and French/Italian bread with mustard.

 

2.  What is the best bread for making toast?  Texas Toast 

How about for making sandwiches? I prefer pumpernickel or rye.

3.  If you go out to eat for lunch, are you more likely to stay with a safe choice or be more adventurous? It depends on my mood really. I do like a good sandwich every once in a while...so Publix is the place to go.

4. Dagwood, hoagie, submarine, Po boy, grinder. Whatever they are called where you are, do you like them and if so what do you want on it? It depends...for instance, when we go to Publix, I usually get an Italian with onions, olives, spinach or sometimes I will get a Philly steak with peppers and onions and mozzarella cheese...and during the holidays they run specials like turkey, cranberry and Gruyère cheese. When we lived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama all those years ago, we would go to McAlister's or Jasons Deli.

1. What's a characteristic you admire in others? Elaborate. 

Honesty and integrity are always the best policy.

Our late son bought this for me from a little shop where we used to live in NY, sadly, Di'anza closed her shop-Harmony Blue.

3. July 15th is/was National Give Something Away Day...will you (or did you, depending on what day you answer these questions) give something away? If so what? Do you regularly give away or do you tend to 'accumulate'? 

Let me tell you, one never realizes how much they have...so lately we have been letting go. I do tend to accumulate clothing though...sigh...it's a nasty habit, lol.

Late Friday Post...

 Good evening from a very humid Central Florida, where the heat index has remained a steady 100-105* even at the present 6:40 pm.

So...currently...

No pool time...because we have had heavy rain every single evening since Monday. I suppose I could get it in right now, but its heat thundering and rain is supposed to start an hour or so...so yeah, no...I'll pass.

**the other night, it stormed so hard, a tree limb fell and broke the glass in our outdoor table. The rain has been a welcome sight...but it has been downright heavy, and the storms are something else.

Work situation...I'll tell you, there are folks in this world who will never accept responsibility. The person / coworker who has been stalking me got in trouble...she was told to stay away from me etc. The photos she took at the Summit/Conference, were taken down etc. No excuses for her behavior...the thought is she has no real friends etc...and she even said she wanted to be like me, she walked in there with a full face of makeup on and looking/dressing like me, 60 years old telling my / our boss how much she wanted to be like me...totally, "Girl, get your own life." was my thought. My boss really lit into her, I know, because I was there. Talk about creepy...sigh.

Drinking...a cup of Tiramisu coffee with Italian Creme. Which brings me too...

I am so tired/on the education / job front... I happy to announce I am going back to my old job, Mandatory Literacy this Monday. Unfort. my hours will be back to the hours of 9:30-6. One good thing is, I won't have to get up at 3 am no more. With all the federal cuts made by the current administration, many changes are on tap. What those changes are, no one knows...but it does trickle down to the states. No danger of losing my job. I do know one change is my student loans, so we shall see.

**the new guy has been trained, and he said he didn't need me anymore. 👍😁

Reading/Watching...nothing. I literally fell into bed at 6-6:30 this week.

Tomorrow...looks to be a nice day --so pool time will be plenty. I am looking forward to just floating the day away, lol.

Good morning from the "swamp"...

Weather...86* at 7:40 am. Expecting a round of severe weather today. Yep, saw that right, 85*.

Checking in... before I head out to the pool--because it's sunny right now...

Gosh I was so close to my exit. This was Friday, we were dismissed from Orlando at 10 - 10:30 am and I could have been home by 11:30...nope, instead it was 2:30 thanks to a semi hitting the 66th St. bridge here in Marion County...sat in traffic for nearly 3 hours. I am glad I made it home safely; however, I was a tad bit mentally ill by then.😉

I was greeted by these cheerful flowers and a happy husband.

I'm loving/grateful...being home. Period. I also did all my laundry already.

Have to deal with...an unfortunate situation that happened at the Summit/Conference. The boss told me to deal with it, or he will have too, and it won't be pretty if he dealt with it. Something happened with a coworker who has been more or less stalking me (and he is fully aware of this because it's been going on for months and folks just thought it was cute and funny and now it got out of hand. Yes, I have documentation.)...long story short, this person accused me of being a thief, and I called her stupid. 

Feeling...

Went yesterday...down early yesterday morning to Oxford aka The Villages yesterday and met our friends. There was a huge yard sale going on Brown's Farm. I didn't make it far and told hubby I needed to head back to the car. 1. The extreme humidity/heat, 2. My feet are killing me. Before I headed back, we stopped at a booth...nice couple who run their own business etc... anyways he/the hubby bought these:

We are going to use the Blueberry BBQ today. Hubby is going to put in a pork roast. ANYWAYS, we came home, and I sat in the pool until the afternoon rumblings / thundering started. 

That's all I got folks...no books, nothing I am watching just because I fell asleep watching Lara Trump's show last night...and honestly, my brain is trying to figure out how to handle this situation.

Late Wednesday Post...

 Good early evening from Orlando where it looks like it is going to come down soon; the sky has turned a crazy blue/black and it is thundering and lightening.

So, what I have been up too? Let's see...yesterday evening it was family/network dinner at the other Rosen hotel--we were bused over.

There were carving stations around the beautiful ballroom in the Rosen Shingle Creek hotel. Korean Pork Belly with rice. Yum, yum, yum...and then

Turkey and dressing. Both were outstanding and the Rosen staff really outdid themselves.

I did meet and had a nice conversation with the Florida Dept. of Corrections Sec. Ricky Dixon and then his asst. sec. sat down at the table where coworkers and I were sitting. Very nice conversation with him, by the end of the evening, I knew all about him and his 2 knee replacements and he knew all about me. My coworkers were a bit jealous. I didn't mean to command his attention, but he really wasn't interested any of what they had to say, maybe it's because he had his little granddaughter with him, and well... you know...me and little kids, lol. She was not having anything to do with none of my coworkers. I am not bragging...actually, I found the whole thing weird and alarm bells were going off. Let's see, fast forward to this morning...

Us minions had to sit further back. Besides, my boss wanted to talk to me... about last night (he did not attend but stressed we needed to attend) and asked me about speaking to so and so. He was proud, so he said...and apparently, when I was questioned about this and that, I knew what to reply too...and my question was to my boss was, "Why me?" He said, "Why not." Because there were thousands of people there...why me? He said, "One of life's greatest mysteries. Staring at me Ms. Conley will not reveal why." My husband, "So, when are we moving to Tallahassee?" NOT---the speakers included Sheriff Grady Judd from Polk County, I know him, as I dealt with him and his office when I worked in Classification. Well, now he has a face to the voice, wink. Funny funny man. And a wonderful speaker. Network, Conley, Network...it has been drilled into my head. I am.not.comfortable.with this.

Then, the busses left us today. Left.us. There were still 500-600 of us left to return. Lucky, one of the important people I met last night, and was standing with us, she knew who to call. We were not going to walk the 2 miles, no way. She was ticked...ANYWAYS, we were so late for the afternoon classes/seminar and none of us got to eat lunch. SO, our hotel put on a nice light lunch for us. Super nice. Anyways there were fruit, little cakes, cookies etc. Anyways, that is about it. I am ready to go home...missing the husband, missing the dog and cat. 😁
