Share Four (More?) Somethings: Last Sunday in October

Happy Sunday friends! Let's take a look back on October, can you believe this is the last Sunday for the month? Nope, me neither.

Trying to improve: my overall attitude. There.it.is. Between the political season, financial, raising costs, just things in general out of my control...it's the truth. I know I can't control any of it, but here I am, still wanting to control things. As for the political season, thank goodness the election is coming up, enough already, unfortunately I know it is far from over. Whoever will be elected, it will be miserable, folks will still go after Trump, and the financial issues and safety issues will remain with either or.

P.S. just throwing in my 2 cents-take it or leave it. How many have been to the Holocaust Museum or any exhibit pertaining to the Holocaust? I have and Trump is NO Hitler. BOOM!! Drop that you silly democrats, you all have issues, deep seeded issues and your brains need to be retrained. Check yourselves. Please, please, please. I am begging you for the love of whatever, check yourselves.

Noticed: That my husband hung up the Heart in the kitchen window...hmm..,

Me thinks it's to big...but I will leave it. And no, it's not stained glass, it's window tint. My mother (believe it or not) had a roll, they have transom windows, and she had this left and gave it to me. Also, believe it not, our kitchen sink does not sit under the window. Nope. We hope to remedy that in the future, but who has $30,000-50,000 for a kitchen redo? Not us.

**on that note (because we all know I can't leave a subject 1/2 finished) we are discussing that we will have to sell mil's house in NY and move her down here sooner than later. So, we will move her here to this house and we will more than likely find another house. IF the economy improves. We are giving ourselves 1 yr to get out of debt and with the nice pay increase, it can be done, it won't be easy, but it can be done. 

Loving: the slightly cooler weather. The mornings are nice, but it warms up to the mid to high 80's by mid-morning. One needs a light jacket or sweater in the morning, which is nice. However, since I am now in a cellblock at work, and it stays a constant like 50*-I will need to wear that light jacket or sweater.

Oh oh...I have reached my 4 Somethings...a couple of more things, because we all know, again, I can't leave things unsaid, LOL...:)

Not liking: One has to ask the Sgt. on duty for her/him to open the staff bathroom (back out two security gates and down a hallway). I get it...but I don't like it.

My husband: God love him...he does so much to keep the homestead flowing smoothly. And it has been hard for me to just let it/things go. I truly appreciate him. Oh, my, how the tables have turned these last few years, him retirement and me not.

Loving Part Deux: My coworker Ms. Oats. What a beautiful loving Christian woman. She was my closet ally. She is the Dept. of Corrections legacy employee of the year, much to her embarrassment/dismay...anyways, long story short, I can't brag enough.

She gave me the most beautiful card with a Dominos gift card, both of us cried.

The last week in October bought a job change for me. She--Ms. Oats has been with the dept. for well over 30 yrs. and is heading into her second retirement soon. Bless her...but, she said she was going to "Hunt me down" to get her daily hug. No one and I mean no one messes with Ms. Oats. Not even the inmates. I love her dearly...and I know she loves me too.

Accomplished: getting my office boxed up and moving on at work. Actually, Ms. Oats is holding my 2 boxes for ransom, so she said. LOL--Ransom for some of my husband's cookies/treats, she said. Oh boy, she and my husband are something else. She told me I better watch out or she will steal him, LOLOLOL.

Yep, sure do...so this is the last Sunday for the month of October. Next weekend is Daylight Savings and brings in November. Wow, already. Wishing you all a beautiful Sunday.

1. What do you hate to see go?

I will be happy to see this month go...that means our hurricane season is almost over with (Nov. 30).

2.  How's the autumn weather in your part of the world right now? 

LOLOLOL--ok, truth be told the mornings are nice, the humidity is a tad bit lower...but all in all, it is still very warm--- too warm.

3.  Anything on your reading list for autumn? What are you reading/watching right now that you would share with us.

I am reading that book...as for watching anything...nothing...because I have been falling into bed at 6:30 exhausted.

 

4.   For many, religion keeps them going. with promises of better things to come. But there are other things that help along the way.  What things/people/thoughts, keep you going on your way? 

I was just telling my husband yesterday afternoon when I got home, if it wasn't for my Faith (I was telling him about my day and the things that go on deep inside Cellblock A), I would never make it inside the prison or really anything in life. I am deeply appreciative of that Faith. I keep saying this, but every morning when I get in the car, I pray, every afternoon when I am leaving outside those steely gates, I pray. I pray regardless of what or where I am.

--also on the humor side, if I didn't work or have a good paying job, I would be seriously homeless. So, yeah, that what keeps me going. Also, my friendships keep me going. 

1. Monday was National Apple Day...did you eat an apple or enjoy something made with apples on Monday? Hmm...nope. Do you like apples? Yes. Do you prefer your apples raw, baked, or in cider? All of it. Do you have a favorite variety of apple? Nope, I like them all.

2. Do you think there's any truth to the saying 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away'. Of the following healthy habits which do you find easiest to incorporate into your life and which is the most difficult for you to adopt-

adequate sleep, a balanced diet, plenty of water, eat breakfast, don't smoke, exercise, limit alcohol,  include fruits and vegetables in your diet, manage stress, limit screen time

Managing fruits and vegetables in my diet is something I find hard to do.

3. Who taught you how to drive? My dad and Coach Anthanson Do you enjoy driving? Yes, Would you rather be the driver or the passenger? It depends. Do you have a favorite scenic drive near you? Nope.

4. What small habit has had a big impact on your life? Prayer. Period

5. Tell us about something nice that happened to you recently.

Well, to make a long story short...my old job was supposed to have a luncheon yesterday to celebrate me going away (was supposed to be Thursday but it got put off--1st alert to me). I get all the way up there (no small feat considering where I am working now) and well, anyways, it never happened, plenty of ticked off people (I better stop there--as it was one excuse after another from the top supervisor who was putting on the luncheon-NOT my former boss). So, I made it back to where I am currently working and was standing outside the office door waiting for so and so to return...well, I found myself soon bombarded by inmates offering me their lunches. It was a nice gesture (and confusing one, because I never mentioned where I was going etc...but apparently news travels even deep inside the prison/ceel bloc). Luckly, I have learned to pack a small lunch...and yesterday was one of those days I thought I had better pack a lunch considering what happened Thursday.

6. Insert your own random thought here. 

So, I am currently "homeless" regarding my office/teaching situation and its ok. He (the new boss) has me shadowing someone and I really won't be teaching until Jan. anyways. I am currently in a dangerous part of the prison where the hard-core inmates are where it's freezing, and I will need to remember to take a jacket Monday. There are 5 classrooms in there. Eventually, I will be in a module / portable with 25 students.  ANYWAYS, all is good.

This or That Sunday...

 While strolling through the internet last night looking for Autumn/Fall Graphics, I came across this. And I was thinking, I thought I saw this on someone's blog (Jennifer's I think) or something similar.

Definitely a Pumpkin Patch. Although, I do love an Apple Orchard. There were plenty of both when we lived up north. Here, not so much. 

A cozy sweater over any flannels. Actually, I would prefer layering. The mornings here have been chilly, so layering is a must.

I do like the painted pumpkins; I am afraid I don't have that vision or foreword thinking on carving a pumpkin even if I traced the pattern first.

I actually prefer glamping. I love being outside looking at stars but prefer being comfortable to sleeping outside.

I prefer watching college football and not baseball. 

Sigh, I will not choose on this one. Actually, liking both chili and soup.

We have done both. Again, will not choose.

 Like both, but more than likely, I would always reach for the chocolate.

This week is spirit week at work and tomorrow is Superhero OR Villian Day. I do not participate and nor will I in that thought. No apologies, I am a "Debbie Downer" and have no imagination or money/clothes to make this happen.

Play in the leaves, there is nothing like walking and playing in the leaves.

Preferring reading a book outside. I love being outside when the weather cools off.

Baking cookies and baking pumpkin bread...both. I am not going to choose, so I am copping out again on a thought, LOL.

So, my last thought before signing off and making below...

Much to my delight in being back in the southern part of the US, Jiffy mixes. They are only .99 cents, and it is that time of the year when one can pop these in the oven and not worry about the kitchen to hot. We couldn't get these up north. When we were at the store Thursday, I probably squealed so loud; I am sure the folks in the other aisle heard me.

Saturday Afternoon Post...

 

Good afternoon...it was a cool morning, but it has since warmed up and a bit tad humid out (82 degrees with the dew point at 64* and humidity at 60%). Luckily, we thought to close the windows before we left. It isn't too bad, but it's enough to close the windows.

So, we left the house really early and met our lifelong friends over at the Ocala Equestrian Center for the annual indoor flea market. I did forget to take photos of the event, but there were like over 450 vendors or so. I had $60 cash to spend. So, I guess y'all are wondering what did I find? Ready?

A Santa Key. WOW. I had to giggle and was a little sad at the same time...when our son was little, he asked how does Santa get in? (because we didn't have a fireplace) we replied he has a magic key --and lo and behold, all these years later, I found the magic key. I bet the kid is up in Heaven just rolling his eyes now (smiling). 'Kismet', so I like to think. 

P.S. 

I say kismet because the funny thing was, we were just talking about this, about Liam and Santa.  And I said to my husband, I needed to find 2 skeleton keys to fit in the two antique dressers we have. Well, the key doesn't fit, because it's a special key, right? Right.

Two books. "The Autobiography of Santa Claus" and "Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas" written by the same person, so I had to get the pair, right? Because they belong together. Right? Thrilled...they look like really great/good books.

P.S. 

So, gotta back this up...I have to tell you all...I was hmming and hawing on the books and decided to walk away and come back. Which I did, a 1/2 hour later, thinking, you know, if it was meant to be then ok. So, when I did, there was the key inside the book. I was perplexed, truly I was, because the key was NOT there before. 

The sweet couple said, "We knew you would be back, so we put the key in the Mrs. Claus book, because we thought it belonged with it. You know, because a Mrs. Claus always has to have a key." I was still sort of perplexed and the man goes, "Well, we just had this strong feeling that you would appreciate the key and well, to be honest with you, we were keeping an eye on the books and my wife was being really overprotective. of the items."

4 Primitive Candle thingies, what are they called? Candle????? I don't know...But I have 3 candle holders, the other one, I just set aside and will find another use for it. So, that is $13-14? I spent. I think I did pretty well.

P.S. 

Another funny story. So, this couple in this primitive booth, were also a delight. By this time, my husband had caught up to me and the ongoing joke is that he will talk to a tree (probably because he spent nearly a year being nonverbal after having his stroke). So, while I was digging through the plate of those candle thingies, he was just a chatting a way. Come to find out, this couple just moved from Rhode Island to here and all this primitive stuff she had in their 1800 house and it no longer "fits" in their Spanish style Florida house (oh I so understand!!!). So, she decided to get rid of it all. I wish I had room; I would have taken every piece of it/the primitive items. LOL

Then we all decided we were hungry and went to Olive Garden for a lunch where we were surprised by an apology for his bad behavior and he/lifelong friend even paid for lunch. And we all have leftovers for dinner.

Is what we plan on doing for the rest of the day. Hubby is in his recliner watching football and the inside of his eyeballs, LOL, and I am here in the kitchen playing on the computer.

Currently Friday...

Outside my window-57* sunny and quite chilly at 8:25 am. Hey, when one goes from near 100* to 50*, it seems freezing, LOL. No worries today will be back up to 80*.

I'm thinking-not much. My husband just left to go help a friend, a tree came down, so he is heading over to chainsaw it (yes, the same friend who cursed him out, I guess they are talking, and my husband set limits--us wives are staying out of it). So, I am thinking some quiet time to read my book. 

I'm enjoying/Loving-the cooler weather. It has been nice the last couple of days with jeans and a light hoodie. We have been out and about here and there, and it has been so nice not sweating etc. Sometimes those walks across a parking lot or exiting a store are just unbearable. LOL--unfortunately, the heat and humidity are heading back. I am also enjoying having the windows open.

In the kitchen-I will be making a baked chicken, mashed potatoes and biscuit casserole.

Another thought---oh hey...so we got all the way up to Gainesville/Celebration Point yesterday (35 miles) and guess what? Sketchers had perm. closed. Wow...so we went over to Bass Pro shops (hubby need ammo) and I tried on several pair of shoes.

You can't really tell, but they have black specks in them. These shoes, wow, amazing. I felt bad for the young man who was waiting on me...then I explained what the problem was (my arthritic feet). He goes, "I think you should try these; people swear by them."--wow, that is all I can say. They are lightweight and it feels like you're not wearing shoes (and my podiatrist would not like this as he thinks I ought to wear ugly heavy sturdy shoes). $59-but I am learning sometimes you just got to splurge on something you really like.

P.S. We did not go to the museum or anywhere near the Univ. of Florida campus. As it's a home game this weekend for the Gators, and traffic was a bear! PLUS, it was so nice seeing the different state utility companies heading home. THANK YOU!!!!! So, many trucks from California, Nebraska, Arkansas. All the way from California!!!

Then on the way home, we stopped at my favorite consignment store (Renaissance Room). I did buy a blouse ($9) but forgot to take a photo. Anyways, hubby saw this and he only paid $10, and we also stopped at Chic Fil A. We love their Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken sandwich. Then we came home and settled in for the late afternoon-evening.

Tomorrow-we are heading over to the Ocala Equestrian Center for their indoor flea market. This is the highlight of my day-lol. They hold these twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. We probably will go grocery shopping after that and put gas in my car for the week. I suppose I could do all that today, but, really, nah. LOL

Currently in central Florida

The weather...50* and chilly. You heard that right and its only supposed to be 73*. Yesterday never actually got warm.

Loving...the cooler weather. That hurricane sure blew the humidity out. No worries, by Sunday it will be back in the high 80"s and nearly 90's. We turned the ac off and opened the windows to air the house out and it feels really good.

Feeling...ok. Having my second cup of coffee at 6:26 am. I am really not wanting to go to the dr.'s today, but they rescheduled twice because of the hurricanes. 

Made... I did make a cherry cobbler last night and it was really good. There are leftovers for later (sorry forgot to take photos).

Thinking...of falling leaves, cinnamon, pumpkins and NOT apple pie, but cherry cobbler...I might have to get some this morning, LOL.

Let's see...yesterday we went to Ollies, and I bought some books. I am now reading the newest Karen White book (well, for me its new)

...and I also bought my soon to be former boss/friend (friend of 41 yrs) a gift, because she loves Hocus Pocus

for $3.99. Score. I only spent $25. SCORE. LOL

Then...what did we do? Oh, went to Walmart and found nice ledgers and picked up some things/groceries and Walmart had NO MILK! NO MILK!!!! The shelves were pretty bare too. What's up with that?

Did anyone see the Kamala Harris interview on FOX last night? I kept yelling at the tv and telling her to just shut up...couldn't answer one question and she was quite rude and combative to Bret Baier. She definitely has Trump Derangement Syndrome. He lives rent free in her brain. Of course, you switch to the other news, and she did wonderful. No, no she didn't.

 Good morning from a 65* Florida, yep, a false fall morning, LOL. Alot of you questioned Tampa Bay, there are numerous news stories about this, and our friend was sent down to St. Petersburgh to help with the clean up and do security work. He sent my husband a video unfort. I can't figure out how to download it here.

 1. How did you meet your significant other? If you don't have a significant other, tell us how you met your best friend. 

I have told this numerous times...both of us were at a HS football game on a Friday night-I with another boy. He simply walked up to me and wouldn't shut up (don't mean to offend anyone with that word), and I ended up pushing him down the bleacher stairs. On Monday he walked up to me and put an X on my forehead proclaiming one day I would be his wife. That was 42 years ago. Yep.

2. It's Department Store Day (October 16)...do you still shop in department stores? 

Just for perfume and makeup (Clinique). That is, it. 

If not do you miss that kind of shopping experience? 

Shopping experience? If you mean rude, snotty employees and high prices, ok. I have to remind myself they are people just like myself...just trying to make a living.

Do you have a favorite department store?

Dillard's and Belks. I avoid the employees as much as I can until I can't anymore. I actually prefer Marshalls or TG Maxx, but I wouldn't actually call them a department store. I think of department stores as high society, LOL.

 Any fun memories of department store shopping when you were a child?

My grandmother took me to her work, Marshall Fields in Chicago. She used to pack up peoples purchases. This is where I learned the art of the making things pretty. I have such great memories of Marshall Fields. My grandmother used to get so dressed up to go to work, smiles.

3. Something you're currently nuts about. 

I work for the prison, so of course I am cuckoo for cocoa puffs, LOL.

4. What's your favorite nut and is there a favorite recipe where this nut is used? 

I like all of them, but I am allergic to Almonds. I do like Nutella, so Hazelnuts would probably be my favorite.

5. On Wednesday we officially reach the '70 days until Christmas' mark. Have you purchased any gifts? If you don't celebrate Christmas, then how about Hanukkah presents? 

Umm...no. Our presents are probably going to be pay things off. Besides, it is just too early for me to do anything Christmas related.

Today-I need to get around and go find 2 ledgers. My husband is having difficulty keeping things/bills in order (so I have noticed, just saying). I asked him the what if (what if I got you a ledger?) and I thought it would be a good idea for me to pick up one for his mother's bills (which I take care of). He agreed. Face it folks, getting old(er) is not for sissies.

P.S. hubby is strongly suggesting we go over to Spectrum and trade in my old duck taped phone...I have been very reluctant to do this to having Liam's (or late son) photos and texts on my phone. But he said all things can be transferred. We shall see.

Thursday-dr. appointment bright and early. Need to go to the Sketchers Outlet in Gainesville. It is that time to get new shoes. And then probably head over to the Harn Museum of Art on the Univ. of Florida campus. And then late lunch or early dinner.

Friday-not sure. Probably grocery shopping.

Saturday-The World Equestrian Center has their annual Indoor Flea Market.

Then come next Friday I will start my new job--so I was told yesterday. Hence the reason for comfortable shoes since my temporary office will be back in T&R (Transfer and Receiving), my classroom/office is not ready yet. And since T &R is quite a hike, I will need comfortable shoes. They have a small area down there where one can hold class. I will be essentially homeless for a while LOL.--all my office stuff is going in storage; I packed up yesterday and I have 2 boxes.

Tuesday Meme

 It's time again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.   

Prices are soaring and there is no end in sight!  Wouldn't it be nice to go back in time to do our buying? Even restaurants were affordable back in the day.

I worked  two full time jobs to help put my kids through school. One of those jobs was Woolworth's. 

1. Did you ever eat at Woolworth's?  

Yes, here in Ocala, when it was up on Silver Springs Blvd. There is a Bingo Hall there now.

2.  What would you order from this menu?

The Three Decker Club and a Coke.

3. Woolworth's had banana splits and Sundaes.  Do you like Sundaes? What kind?

Yes, Hot Fudge or Caramel.

4. What restaurants are you favorites and what do you usually order?

I really don't have a favorite, but whenever we go down to the Villages, I like the Metro Diner. They usually have specials, but sometimes I like to get the Breakfast Hamburger (it has an egg and hashbrowns on it)-don't knock it until you try it.

--on a side note, my mom worked for Woolworths when she was a teenager, and she was a soda jerk. And yes, we did find gas and no we are not heading to the beach this week, why? Alot of places are still underwater, sand ridden roads, and lots of beach erosion, still no electricity, gas issues etc. Did you know Tampa Bay now has no water in it? Scary.

and foggy, the sun is trying to pick out at 8:30 am. No worries supposed to be 85* today.

Feeling...incredibly blessed. 

As I see the photos from the hurricanes, we are just to so blessed. Folks think we are crazy to live in Florida and maybe we are. There really is no safe to be, folks. Earthquakes, snowstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes etc... they are abundant everywhere. With that said, I do take these things for granted, if that makes sense.

Celebrating...I was reading Ocala has gasoline now. 

We have to get out today and go find some. Although, my car is on 1/2 tank, and I am only working 2 days. I just don't like seeing it at 1/2 tank. The what ifs are too much to think about. If most of my readers saw what we saw the last few days, well...the what ifs would affect you too. I think it's more on the lines of taking things for granted.

Yesterday...I did nothing. 

N-O-T-H-I-N-G. I got caught up on blogs, YouTube, and such. I did however make homemade sloppy joes for dinner. Hubby was outside for a long time, and I did poke my head out the back door to see if he was ok. It seems the cargo trailer had sunk into the sand, way too much rain etc. and it caused some issues. So, he was out dealing with that. He got it fixed etc.

Today...like I said we have to find gasoline. I have no idea what is for dinner tonight.

Tomorrow...work Monday and Tuesday then I am off. 

I know Daytona is out of the question because its October BikeFest. No thanks, traffic will be heavy. We might make our way up to Amelia Island State Park/St. Augustine. I can't believe they / officials will still hold this as Daytona had the surf come in etc. all the way to Main St. and A1A. I do know anywhere on the Gulf, nope, out of the question beach wise.

***and on that thought, I know I am being selfish in wanting to get some beach/ocean time in.

Thinking...

a friend works for a security company and was hired onto secure a well-known home improvement store over in St. Petersburgh. He called last night and said the looting is bad. Folks are desperate etc. It is a dire situation over there, Tampa, Clearwater, Sarasota. We also have another friend who is coming down from Ohio to check on their mobile home in Sarasota, if it's still there.

...And Lastly

And on that thought, I am over Halloween, as it is time to be grateful. Grateful and thankful for those who put their lives on the line -utility workers, tanker drivers, Cajun Navy, Samaritans Purse and so on. Be thankful for what we have, folks, as we have recently learned, nothing is a "given". I'll be working on getting my blog changed over / decorated for Thanksgiving...hopefully.

 Good morning from Florida. And still no gasoline nowhere to be found here in Ocala. ALTHOUGH, yesterday driving home from work, there was a convoy of Utility trucks from Arkansas and Louisiana and the Cajun Navy AND tanker trucks. So, hopefully, we will have gas soon.

You are always very welcome here and your participation is much appreciated.

1. What memories do you have of Octobers past?

The fall season brings back memories of living in the Hudson Valley all those years ago. The beautiful colors, the fresh snappy fall air. It is currently 63* here in central Florida and it is nothing compared to what the north is. One thing is for sure, that hurricane did indeed knock out the humidity.

2. Besides here in New Jersey, some of the coziest neighborhoods I've driven through were in rural Ohio and Pennsylvania.  The picture reminds me of those times. Does this photo bring any thoughts to mind for you?  

Yes, see above...and this is our old house in Hudson

and now look, it is now worth $950,000. Yes, I have kept up with it. And I told hubby, although I don't like NY politics, I would love to live up in the Hudson Valley again, if I ever won the lottery, LOL.

Those were good memories. Then we moved to the other side (near Buffalo) so our son could go to college all those years later.

we lived in the 1st story apartment. Nonetheless, there is nothing like fall in the north.

3. As weather cools, I do enjoy Pumpkin Spice and Pumpkin Latte flavors in my coffee.  Do you like flavored coffees or teas? Which are favorites for you?

I like Caramel coffee and caramel creamer and Pumpkin Tea. When we lived in NY, I would buy the local coffee such as

What kind of pies, cakes and pastries do you like to eat?

I love Apple Cider donuts, apple pies, pumpkin donuts etc. I actually bought some Italian Cookies the other day from Publix.

Enough talk about NY, they were happy memories, and I am glad we got to share that with our son. Alas, it's not meant to be anymore. I do get a tad bit melancholy during this season. It is hard to write into words what living up north in the fall season is like. Thank you for your sweet comments and prayers. I'll tell you what, seeing that convoy yesterday, sure warmed my heart and I was thanking the good Lord all the way home and might had been shouting Thank you at the convoy too. 

It was announced due to the severity of damage in Hillsborough, Pinellas etc. we will not be getting inmates in next week. Plus, we are filled to max because we had emergency evacs. So, I am going to use the 36 hours of Comp time (well the majority of it I will use) that was so graciously given by our wonderful governor and take some time off next week. We were going to head to the beach (ha), but I think we probably won't. But we will figure something out. If the gas situation doesn't get figured out, we will be staying put. Maybe we stay local and visit some museums etc. I am hoping to get caught up on my blog roll today. We will be staying put today. Hurray for pj's.

Hmm...indeed, I think I will have a cookie now. Have a great day all!

P.S. Still no electrician, hopefully sometime next week. But you know, there are folks out there who are in need more than we are. Just keeping it real.
