Hodgepodging...

 How can it be the last Wednesday in September already? BTW when you read this, I will be at work. One week in, seems a lifetime really. NOT that is a bad thing.

1. When is the last time you experienced nostalgia?

Every once in awhile... it usually is a smell or someone's voice that gets my ears/nerves perked up.

 2. September 29th is National Coffee Day. Do we need this? Ha! So are you a coffee drinker? If so how many cups per day, and tell us how you like it. Is there a recipe you enjoy that calls for coffee as one of the ingredients? 

I drink 2 cups of Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters each morning with Italian Sweet Cream. I also put coffee in mocha or chocolate frosting.

 3. Do you find praise or criticism to be more motivating? Explain. 

It depends on the person. Personally, I prefer praise; Criticism doesn't work for me. There is no need really to be so mean to people. I personally use praise when dealing with an issue. Ok, USUALLY...I can be quite snotty, not meaning to be.

 4.  What's a television series you keep coming back to and re-watching? 

I really like the Building off the Grid programs, Yellowstone, that is about it.

 5. As the month of September draws to a close give us three words to describe your mood.

Long day--actually long several days ahead...glad I looked at my phone (the schedule comes via online), my schedule was changed.

Tuesday 4

 Have a day off. Let me tell you, working for the #1 retailer in the world is no joke. More like not really training but more like throwing the baby in the bathwater and seeing if she sinks or swims. Tomorrow begins 6 days straight of 8 hr shifts. They did warn me; hours are plentiful if you want them. My husband was kind enough to make some Veil masks, as masks are mandated here. I can not wear it / the regular masks all day -thanks to asthma and employees MUST wear them, some sort of King Cuomo mandate. I'll be happy when this nonsense is over with. ANYWAYS...onwards...

Marriage...joining in with the Tuesday Meme.

1. How did you meet your husband/wife?

We met when we were freshmen in High School. He kept starring at me while at a football game. I eventually pushed him down the bleacher stairs. He was a rude boy.

2. How did you know he/she was “the one”?

I didn't. The following Monday morning he came up to me and put a X on my forehead and said, "One day you'll be my wife." I was like, "Seriously? Who are you?" 38 years later, here we are.

3. How did he propose?

He asked me before he went to serve in the Marines (but parents say NO and we left it at that) and came home on leave. He then took me over to Gordons Jewelers to pick out a ring-which we did. My folks had repeatedly said "No". I eventually moved out to San Diego, actually I was kicked out when I was 18 because I chose to be with him. We lived together for nearly 2 yrs before we were married. AND here we are, all these years later and they still say no. My parents have stuck to their word; I was never allowed back into the "fold".

4. Do you have any favorite stories from your marriage or about your husband/wife?

Ohhhh, I don't know...we have seen, done everything. He is my best friend. All these years, he still makes me laugh, still gets me angry, still makes my heart swell. Neither one of us have the sense to leave. LOL---and I fully say, that one is on me. I am a very difficult person to live with.

Surviving the job, hey just keeping it real. I will never take a retail employee OR employer for granted again, NEVER. You think its easy? Try walking a mile in their shoes. I have found a new high regard for them. Just because I work for a major retailer, doesn't mean the job is easy, its not. The last 3 days have left me exhausted. Have to go get insoles for my shoes today. I was too tired yesterday after my shift to run over to the shoe department. Just keeping it real.

17. Something about which you feel strongly.

The state in to which our country is and is going. The outright hate truly bothers me.

Some of you  might have seen my brief post on FB; even the new guy has to push carts. That is a young mans game and this old lady had a hard time. It was so busy yesterday, every person was called into action to help out yesterday on pushing carts. I was no exception. I have a new found respect for my employer that I did not know I had, just keeping it real.  Hey, wanna talk about on the job crash training? I got it all yesterday. Its no joke. AND for one brief second I thought to myself, Am I sure about this job and what it entitles. Just keeping it real. Management was apologetic, its all good. A good way to learn and I firmly believe that.

Just another quick thought...

 First day went well...busy, busy, busy...way too much info to remember...but it will be fine. Training continues this morning (9-2) --which means computer exams and 5  hr sitting. I am not complaining. I'm working and earning a living. Just a little thought this morning; one of the best campaign ads.

 APOLOGIES!!! Between finding out I start my job this morning and not being able to sign in to here and there including my work account, ITS BEEN MISERABLE. I forgot to Ok the comments from yesterday. Internet has been wonky here.

Twice the other day I heard this... the latest from Cardinal Dolan; if you support a pro abortion candidate then you, yourself will stand in judgement. Wow...did it ever hit me. Then visiting another blog, this was on it. Wow...God trying to get his message across. Honestly, this applies to all Christians, not just Democrats. I am firm believer we all will stand before God and atone for all of our sins. Isaiah 45:23 verse 11.

Fr. James Altman: You can not be a Catholic and vote Democrat.

Hodgepodging...

 Again, thank you for the kind comments. Falling behind...Hodgepodging through on this Wednesday morning.

1. It's fall y'all. What's something you love about this season and also something you don't?

 I love everything about this season. Maybe the shortened days and early nightfall I don't like. It sure seems like we are turning on the lights earlier. smiles

2. When you think of the colors of fall, which one is your favorite? Is there somewhere you could easily day trip to see the leaves in all their glory? Will you? 

Day tripping through Keuka Lake (not far from here) last late Sept. Don't know if we will or not...I love all the colors.

3. What's one thing you've let 'fall' by the wayside during this season of staying home and staying away?

hmm...well... Probably just getting in the car and taking off.

4. If you're wearing a sweater is it most likely a cardigan, crew neck, v-neck, or zip up hoodie? 

Usually a v neck or a pullover sweatshirt. This time of year is when you need to layer up. The mornings are cool and crisp but by afternoon, it warms up.

5. What's your secret to dealing with change?

Secret? No secret. Just do it. If you don't adapt, you will be left behind. Period.

Tuesday Meme

This week's topic is your home routines.

 1. What laundry products do you like to use or find best for you?

I use Persil laundry detergent and Downy Gentle Softner both for HE --we have a High Eff. washing machine and Downy dryer sheets. Clorox Lilac bleach for deep cleaning.

2.Dryer, line or combination of both?

I wish I had a clothes line. But we live in the city, and folks would probably frown about that.

3. Do you have wood floors or carpeting and which is best?

Here in our rental, There are wood floors under the carpeting and for the record, I hate carpet. My home will have wood floors.

4. Housekeeping professionals give the following guidelines. Which do you follow? Do you have better ideas?

1. open windows first

2. clear up clutter before cleaning.

3. start in bedrooms first

4.give cleaning products time to work.

5.Always sweep or vacuum before mopping

6.use a toothbrush for hard to get at areas

7. keep things on a central cart if you can

8.dust everything

9.vacuum your furniture often, mattresses once a month or so.

I actually do all of these. Deep Spring cleaning, and changing out drapes too. Even in the winter time, a window will get put open just air out the house. You gotta' keep the icky germs out.

Memory Lane...

 Thank you all for the comments yesterday. Nope, my nose was not stuck in a book. It was stuck in the basement; sorting this and that. Time to purge. 7 years of living here and plans for the future. Probably at some point today or this week, back to the basement. 

I have often shown my photos of where we lived in the Hudson Valley of NY all those years ago. Above is Elizaville. Not far from our from our late blogging friend Toni who lived in Germantown. Sadly, I did not know her back then. What started this memory journey was when I received my background check back and it had 30 something years listed.

This was our house that sat on a farm. It use to be a "mail/carriage/horse/tavern" stop during the Revolutionary War. Yep, it was drafty and haunted (no need to discuss that-the previous owner -or whoever liked to walk up and down the stairs all day and all night long). House is still there. Wanting to go over and see it (a 3-4 hr drive).

Taken off Google Earth. This was our "peace on Earth sanctuary".

Whoever has it now, is working on it. Forgive me, I know I have discussed this before.

To the right of the house are the barns. I see whoever owns it now, added a white structure.

The house sits across the street from a small lake. Still does. Took this off Google Earth too.

I hope you enjoyed the visit down Memory Lane. I am afraid we are priced out of the Hudson Valley now. Even with a job...by the way, no I haven't started training yet. Still waiting.

Sunday Salon

 Good morning from another crisp Western/Southern Tier New York. Had to turn on the furnace (the house said 57*).

Time: 8:40 am

Scene: Cloudy and 36*

Today's Plan: Hmm...probably nothing. Sticking my nose in a book, maybe.

Drinking: My second cup of Breakfast at the Finger Lakes coffee with Sweet Cream.

Listening to: The furnace is on and hubby talking about the upcoming vetting for the Supreme Court pick.

Reading: I have a stack of books to go through, not sure which one to pick. Also, reading online news; Newsmax, OANN, Breitbart, Townhall.

Pondering: What am I not pondering? Maybe that should be the real question. I am pondering the continuing lunacy on the left, the never ending hate, the never ending misinformation about the Covid, how folks really don't understand how the government works, including those on the left and right and so on. Hey, just keeping it real.

Just Ideas/Dreaming...

 I ain't got nothing...the Saturday 9 and Friendly Fill In's---blank...brain is blank. lol

It is a crisp 36* here this morning. So, how about some ideas for a front porch?

Oh, I like this idea; chair, cloth napkin, tablecloth, mums, pumpkin. Simple but elegant.

Ohhhhhh I like the white Mums, ghost pumpkins and the the corn stocks. Very pretty.

Then again, I like all the orange color. Pops.

Sigh, oh to have a big front porch to decorate...just dreaming...

Oh, I wish I had a fireplace or even a fake mantle...cool beans.

Wanna Take a Walk?

 Wanna take a walk? Wednesday we decided to take a walk to the post office, had to check my mother in-laws mail.

Normally we would just walk across the Seneca Street Bridge. The bridge was torn down in January. Nice to see the work hasn't affected the Covid shutdown. Although, they weren't working on it Wednesday.

Ok then, so take a left and walk along the river/mountain runoff. Our city has canals every so often with numerous bridges/walkways over the river. Long way around to the Post Office. Been noticing how dirty everything is...and dingy.

One of my favorite houses. Italianate? I don't know what they call it. The funeral home is next to it.

Stopped there at the house and turned around to take a photo of beautiful Maple Street -homes cost upwards of $300,000. "Millionaires/Mansion row" I call it. They don't have a dinge problem. What? Keeping it real. Not one Biden sign though, just saying.

Decided after the Post Office to take the other way home. Big mistake. See all the filth on the bridge? (this bridge is HWY 36, and its not being worked on, should be, needs it)

Such filth.

My husband asked me to take photos (yeah, that's him and the dog) and send it in to the Mayor. By the way, the Mayor regularly will answer his email. Our neighborhood starts as soon as you get out of the short tunnel.

I did get some puff ball comment from the Mayor. Not that I was expecting a real true answer from him. Disgusting what our neighborhood has become.

One last photo. Our neighbor...lot more of these signs/flags going up. A lot more whispering about the lack a daisy job our mayor is doing, he is too busy appeasing the BLM movement.

Pumpkin Picking-Photo Overload

 So many things to be thankful for. One of them is where we live. Although, yesterday was rather warm (80*). Not to day, back to the 60's. Anyways...went pumpkin picking Tuesday.

Pulled up and spotted snakes! Egads, no not really. Strange looking Gourds. Oh I knew then we were in for an adventure of finding that perfect pumpkin. Unfort. because of Covid rules one can not go "picking" in the field. Stupidity. Buzz kill. That's enough.

All kinds of gourds and Jacks in a bin. (yep, that was my husband who by the way was literally kicking and screaming-but soon got in the fun)

That huge one in the middle was $20.

Even ones with 'warts'. "Dude, quit photo bombing!" He was driving me nuts. It's not necessary to follow me around. He said, "I want to make sure you get the perfect pumpkin and not some horrible one."

Ended up with these.

They didn't have cornstalks, oh they did have green ones, no thanks. I want the dried up brown ones...usually the porch is done up looking like a maze of sorts.

Oh well, will work with what we have.

Soon it will be time to hang up the Halloween theme wreath. Hey, did you hear the good news? King Cuomo is going to allow Trick or Treating. Not so good, he will have guidelines, one of the impending "rules"  have to wipe down each and every piece of candy. ((rolling eyes))--he is such a buzz kill. I think that is the point; NOT to have trick or treating by having such ridic. rules/guidelines.

Hodgepodging

 Again, thank you all for the kind comments yesterday. Yep, I am falling behind. We went Pumpkin picking yesterday, came home decorated the front porch, sat on the porch all afternoon.

1. What's one thing you learned at the ripe old age of whatever age you are now?

Life is short. Live it to the fullest.

extra virgin olive oil, green tea, fatty fish, dark chocolate, vegetables, flaxseeds, pomegranates, avocados, tomatoes, spices, bone broth

How many of the foods listed have you tried? 

All of them

How many do you eat regularly?

I do not like green tea, fatty fish or flaxseeds or Avocados. The rest, regularly. 

Your favorite from the list?

Well, now that the weather is cooling off, bone broth for soups. 

3. Something you miss from the 'good old days'? 

Honestly, I don't know...maybe the Patriotism. We need to get back to that, so much hate.

When were the good old days anyway?

I remember growing up the flags were always out, folks were civil and so on. Even during war time.

4. What are two or three of the most rewarding things to be found in growing older?

Peace or seeking it. Honestly, young folks, get it together already. I also think as I have gotten older, I am no longer seeking permission to be whatever or be included etc.

5. What's your favorite part of your life right now?

We were talking yesterday on how fast 53 and 54 years have gone and the things we could of done differently. Then it dawned on us that we are where we are suppose to be, if that makes any sense. Firm believer that the good Lord puts where he wants us.
