Some fall decorating...

 Yesterday was a beautiful day; low humidity and nice temps in the high 70's low 80's. So, decided to change out some things in the kitchen yesterday evening.

Of course the guys are like, "Why?"

 

Unfort. the pull down shade will have to remain until the heat/humidity subsides (no ac). 

Putting out some towels.

Yeah, don't look at the crayon marks on the metal cabinet. I don't have the heart to take them off.

Then changed out the curtain on the back door, sorry forgot to take a photo, it matched the kitchen window. Oh wait, here is an overview of the kitchen I found in my files.

What's holding up the curtain/fabric?

Hair barrettes. My sister in -law use to work for Rubbermaid and use to give me boxes and boxes of hair things. Then she changed jobs and now works for the Kia plant in Georgia. 

Sunday Salon

 The Sunday Stealing questions were sort of stupid today and I really didn't feel like answering them. Besides, have you noticed search engines are down? As is email?

Time: 8:36 am

Scene: 59* and overcast, a very pleasant morning to have the backdoor open and let some fresh air in.

Drinking: My second cup of Breakfast at the Finger Lakes coffee with sweet cream.

Going on today: Nothing much. I have the chicken soaking in salt water, going to deep fry it later. STILL job hunting.

Listening to: Actually, all is quiet. The birds outside the window. Soon the Canadian Geese will be back.

Reading: No books; I need to make another visit to the library outside stand. (library still closed). I was reading some local news-39 children found in Ga and 29-30 in Ohio all part of a Child trafficking ring. Makes me wonder about those Epstein/Maxwell papers. Of course, your not going to hear about it because the MSM controls the narrative right now.

Pondering: Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carrol and his insanity to stop NFL football practice to teach us "white folks" about racism. Hey, Petey, want to talk about white privilege and racism? Let's talk about ageism and many other forms of discrimination that still exist. White privilege and racism, my arse. Yeah, I said it. So rich/hypocritical coming from rich folks black and white.

1. Freedom and voting ...is a privilege.

2. I was so embarrassed when ... I don't embarrass easily. So, honestly, I couldn't say what...ok...let me think...lately, hubby has been acting out in the stores pointing things out that should be cancelled according to the BLM/Cancel Culture; Quaker Oats, Arm and Hammer. Actually, its not embarrassing, its quite entertaining.

3. I can't help but smile when... I see more folks defying the mask mandate. More power to ya!

4. The rioting and the hate/BLM, socialism movement and such has gotten out of hand. 

**Although I am believer in the 1st Amendment; rioting, harming human beings, businesses, burning, looting and acting like animals and such is NOT the 1st Amendment, it is hate and I will go on record to state, this movement needs to be quelled and bought to their knees. PERIOD.

Evilness

 So, I'm going out in a bang--at the end of August with this. Evilness; profoundly immoral...just pure evil. Says it all with a smile. Fast forward to 5:22. 

For the record, Corbet, its people like you and the MSM who are controlling the narrative on who /whom knows about the riots. I would arrest Kamala Harris for inciting riots. You, madam, are doing nothing to heal this country.

Thankful Thursday

 How in the world is it Thursday? Wait, is it Thursday? I don't know, grin. See being in a perpetual lockdown, this is how life is right now. 

Thankful for all of you and your lovely comments.

Thankful for the DOJ who has ordered an investigation and documents from NY, NJ, PA, MI of the nursing home deaths.

Thankful for common sense.

Thankful for my husband and son.

Thankful for a full pantry, food in our bellies, a roof over our heads.

It's a Doggy Hodgepodge

1. The Hodgepodge lands on National Dog Day this year (August 26th). Do you own a dog? Did you have a dog when you were growing up, or maybe some other kind of pet? Would you say you're more of a dog person or a cat person? Neither is okay too : )

We have  13 Year old German Shepherd and yes, we had various dogs growing up. I'm more of a big dog person than a cat or a small dog.

2. Last time you felt 'dog tired'?

Lately...every single day. More mind weary than spiritual or physical. I am tired...just tired of fighting these quarantine rules/mandates, tired of looking for a job in a 15.7% unemployment era. Yep, 15.7% here. Thanks to the insanity that the king governor will not let go.

3. It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. When did you last prove this idiom true or prove it wrong?

Yikes...our dog is always picking up new tricks, lol...let's see... hubby it seems is picking up the cursing (a lot) at the news lately, can that be a old dog new tricks thing? I don't know. Actually, let's just keep it real, we all have been flabbergasted and angry lately and all been yelling at the tv, like it can hear us, ya  know, lol.

4. A favorite book, television show, or movie featuring a dog. Why did you love it?

Tuesday 4

 Welcome to Tuesday 4 which was started by our friend Toni Taddeo and kept up in memory of her.

 Different sections of the USA have different words and customs they use. Let's talk about them.

1. In New Jersey you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag. In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack.
Is it bag, sack or something else where you live?

I haven't a clue. I have always said bag.

2. NJ says Stockings. Athens, Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live?

Wait, there is a difference between hose/stockings and tights? My mother always called them stockings, my grandmother called them panty hose. I call them stockings. AND I thought tights were a thicker material.

3.Soda, Pop, Coke? 

Pop. I was raised to say Pop. But here, they say Soda or Coke.
 
4. Shopping cart or trolley or? What do you call it?

Buggy. But here its a shopping cart.

Just Price of Homes and Taxes...

 Just discussing houses and taxes this morning. Just quick looking on the houses, but the tax issue is real/true. I'll start off with the Northeast first. Of course, I am just listing the median of each. 

1. Our area; taxes are $17.61 per $1,000 or median $3,755 per year.

2. Maine; taxes are $11-20 (depending on area) per $1,000. Median is $1,936 a year.

3. New Hampshire; property taxes are Median taxes are $4,636.

4. Onward to the south Tennessee; 0.68% or median $933 a year.

5. Onward to Georgia; 0.68% or median $742.

6. Florida; 1.02% per 1,000, Median Property Tax $1,702.

Ok, now I have blown your minds. We are really taking this serious here in the Conley home. I'll be discussing more like taxes and income later. Just wondering... Have you ever thought about things like this?

As the garden grows...rambling on

 I couldn't relate to the Sunday Stealing today. So, let's just ramble on. So, a much contentious piece of land behind our shed became our container garden. I say contentious because this little piece of land was fought over in a recent dispute with the person who use to own the house next door. Then he sold it -the house after his mother died. ANYWAYS, thanks to my research it was found that indeed, our landlady owned this. Hey, 80 year old land surveys don't lie.

Our landlady said to plant whatever we wanted, of course, we share with her. The garden is overgrown with tomatoes and the pumpkins haven't poked their flowers up yet. The lettuce and onions are done.

I am so tempted to pull off green tomatoes and make Fried Green Tomatoes. But nope. I won't.

At one point, last winter, I thought the asparagus ferns had died. Nope.

So, I was thinking while standing there how much folks souls die; figuratively speaking I mean. So much hate in the world right now. Yeah, its on my  mind.

So many things on my mind...one of them is the immediate thing of finding work/a job. It consumes me really. I didn't spend $70,000 on a fancy education to do nothing, just keeping it real. Who knew (well, honestly, the government knew way back in 2018) that a virus would hit and force a shut down...well, that's another story, isn't it? Should of never shut down, period. Scary times we are living in. That's for sure. I spent about 12 hours yesterday doing deep research on the states from Maine to Georgia and in between. The writing is on the wall...so, how to get to point A to Z. So, I will leave you with a thought to ponder on for tomorrow's post;

It was alright.

4) Mike was played by Billy Gardell. He was working at a comedy club, cleaning the bathrooms and answering the phone. He used to crack jokes with other employees and finally one of his coworkers dared him to go onstage on "open mic night." A comedy career was born. Tell us about someone who pushed you to make the right move.

My husband and son are my biggest cheerleaders.

5) On the show, Mike's best friend was his fellow officer, Carl McMillan. Carl was not especially motivated and still lived with his grandmother, well into his 30s. How old were you when you moved out of the house for good?

I was kicked out at age 18 and was told to never return and I haven't. Which is why I am a different parent than my parents were.

6) Mike's and Molly's mothers are different as night and day and frequently did not get along. Have you ever had in-law trouble?

Yes. every single day. My mil has dementia, she is a severe diabetic, and she is also mentally ill, her husband (not my husbands father) has severe epilepsy and the court awarded us Conservatorship. I control their financial lives and hubby controls the rest. AND No, we don't get help from the other 5 kids or any other family member, they are all bitter, mean spirited etc.

7) This week's song was written by Keb Mo. He switches among several different guitars when he works -- electric, acoustic and resonator. Can you play guitar?

Nope

8) In 2010, when this show premiered, Apple introduced the iPad. Do you use a tablet?

Yes, just to play my Township game and to take photos. 

9) This week's random question gives you an opportunity to brag: What's something you do better than most people?

I don't know...probably research. But truthfully, I'm a Jack of all Trades...just don't ask me to build a house or construction. So not my thing. lol

Good Things

Since our library is still closed...thankfully they have a nice FREE book shelf outside.

I am afraid I would be a disappoint to Miss Judith Manners. On page 214 in reference to Conversations;

News: Startling bulletins may be effective in suggesting ideas, but the popular notion that being able to recite current political & cultural news accurately makes one conversationalist erroneous. The person who has actually read the book or article that everyone is supposedly to be talking about is a menace unless everybody is really taking about it.

Personally, I find folks who are intelligent and well versed in politics refreshing. If my FB page is any indication, I am afraid Miss Judith Manners will be greatly disappointed in me. Ok, moving along...

Ha! Look what our little Walmart is carrying! One of my favorites which I have not had since leaving Alabama 7 years ago.

1. Five years ago this month hubs and I relocated from New Jersey to the Palmetto State. What were you doing five years ago this month?

Starting College.

2. What was the last 9-5 job you worked? Tell us about it.

Gosh, nearly 20 yrs. ago. I worked for a home decor store; assistant manager, decorated store front windows, etc. I loved working the holidays, yep even the cranky people.

3. Plead the fifth, high five, take five, it's five o'clock somewhere, or the big 5-0...which number five phrase relates to your life in some way currently? Tell us how.

4. During this season of spending so much time at home, what distractions get in the way of being your most productive? Or have you been extra productive since this whole thing started?

Reading and recycling old books to read/going through our massive home library (ok stacks and boxes of books). Since our town library is still closed. Oh, I have been productive alright.

Speaking of books...found two great books at the thrift store. More books about the Civil War.

Since there is such a big push for Socialism/Communism, I better continue grabbing books. Why? Because that is one of the things that goes; books and freedom of thought. I implore you to read Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky. IF you think this (Socialism and Communism) can't happen here, it already is. How's that 15 day stop of the virus going? How's that mask mandate going? Just wondering. AND yes, the government is testing us. Most Americans are following like sheep (and its working).

Tuesday Meme

Let's discuss time!

1. Are meals eaten at certain times in your home or are they more spontaneous?

On Sundays they are eaten by 4:30. Although last night it was near 7-if you saw my post you would know we went over to Geneseo. Most of the other days its by 6. Between 5-6.

2. If you attend religious services or club meetings, are they morning, afternoon or evening? Are there advantages/disadvantages to that time?

No. churches are still closed here.

3.Are you in bed and up in the mornings at a regular time each day?

Yep. Up by 6:30-7 am. Use to be when I was in classes and had to drive to campus by 4:30 am. I am sure IF or WHEN a job comes along, it will be back to 4:40-5 am. 

4.Do you set apart specific times during the day or week to do certain things like study, shopping, laundry, visiting?

Shopping-usually between 12- 2 or so. We like to be done by the late afternoon.

Laundry-usually in the evenings. I like folding laundry while watching TV in the evenings.

Visiting-what is that? Thanks to the shutdown, folks are just plum fearful...anyways, anytime after 11 am to 8 pm is fine with us.

TV watching- usually 6-10

Reading or playing my online games-anytime

Hmm...lolol

Monday Thoughts...

 Ok, such a humdrum life I lead thanks to the virus and the mandated shutdowns or 25% capacity. Nothing to say, so I will link back to Stacy.

Currently...67*, not suppose to be as hot and humid today, someone forgot to tell Mother nature that. I let the dog out and its pea soup and looks like it wants to rain.

Feeling...I was suppose to go get blood work and the second antibody test this morning--but nah, another day. No appointment, just have to get it done. Plus, the cars are still blocked in (have to keep the cars off the street on Sundays).

Reading...A Letter from a Stranger by Barbara Taylor Bradford

Listening too...the ac's kicked on and my husband is talking about how the Dairy Farmers of America are selling to China while crushing the little guy/mom/pop.

On the to do list...I didn't get any dusting done Friday, so maybe that or not. 

Grateful...made a trip to Geneseo yesterday to the Big Thrift store and to Super Walmart, found ammo and after a quick background check, bought some, then stopped at the thrift store found a few items, more on that later. Turned around and headed home in the pouring rain. Soon as we got to the Stonybrook Gorge, the rain stopped. I guess the rain couldn't make it over the mountain, lol.

Sunday Stealing

1. What makes it easy to talk to someone?

It use to be a welcoming smile, but, now with the mask mandate...I am afraid we are all strangers now. However, with that said, since I have taken to wearing the Trump 2020 mask just on my mouth now, quite a few commenters and whispers now who support Trump 2020. I would say also, A LOT of silent majority folks who are afraid, thanks to the cancel culture.

2. Have you ever had a great conversation with a complete stranger?

Yes. The other day while at the store, there was a mom with 4 daughters/little girls, all in stepping stone age. The cutest thing I have seen in a long time. Anyways, the little girls had the cutest princess masks on. I commented to the mother (btw, she was having a hard time trying to control these 4 little girls). Of course, the little girls were chatter boxes. Sometimes, you just got to stop and make conversation with a complete stranger.

3. Do you like to argue?

No.

4. Some people like to talk about things, and some people like to do things. Which are you?

Do things. Right now, I refuse to discuss politics with the bleeding heart liberals. No saving them.

5. Who is easier to talk to – men or women?

Probably 50/50.

6. What is your favorite place?

Probably home. But the library (which remains closed, btw) is a close second.

7. What is your favorite place in your home?

Around the dinner table.

8. Would you most want to live in a city, a suburb or the country?

At this point because of the situation going on and transients moving from the city-I say country. I have had enough of the Defund Police and BLM thoughts.

9. What is special about the town you live in?

It use to be the non crime; one could leave your car keys in the vehicle, doors unlocked and so on. Can't even porch sit for long without being bothered by a Karen.

10. How much time do you spend in nature?

Probably not as  much as I use too, it has been so hot and humid here since April.

11. Do you make up a dinner plan for the coming week?

No.

12. Do you make up a grocery shopping list and stick to it when shopping?

Yes and sometimes. Somehow, cookies always find their way into the cart. They magically jump in or show up at the checkout. LOL

13. What is one thing that you always buy, but never write down on a list?

Cookies, again, they magically end up in the cart.

14. Is there anything that you always think you are out of and come home with it to discover you already have a year’s supply on hand?

Yeah...we shouldn't talk about this. One would think since we have been here for 7 yrs, one wouldn't shop like we lived in Alabama; 20 miles away from the store. I also have to say, the store shelves are back to being bare and its scary.

15. Do you get your groceries delivered?

No, but I do have my mother in-laws delivered. I thought I was teaching her a lesson, nope. She has taken full advantage of this. I have since cut down her shopping to twice a month now. She doesn't get that it cost $10 for delivery and since the court approved it, we also get paid. But she doesn't get it...no sense in trying to save money. Her taxes are coming up next month; $1,850 county taxes. She's in a for a rude awakening-her groceries won't be much. We keep telling them, but both are in denial about the 150% increase in taxes (and for that matter, Cuomo is lying through his teeth too, as he has been on the news stating taxes aren't going up).

Saturday Ramblings

 I forgot all about posting yesterday, so sorry. 

Yesterday was not a good day...oh I tried to make it a good day, unfort. the devil had other plans.

---Before even getting in the door at the dr. office there sat a contact tracer. Had to answer a lot of questions. Seriously, folks.

---Then finally let me in. What did I find? Signs on the chair "No sitting, social distance". Only two-four people allowed in. Yep. My asthma is off the charts due to the extreme humidity and mask mandates. Have to have some blood work done Monday and I will also get a second Antibody Test. Why? The first one came back Positive-I have the antibodies to fight off Covid, I had Covid (apparently last spring 2019 when I was deathly ill and no one knew what it was). We also want to make sure it wasn't a false positive. Apparently there are issues with testing. We are working to get my asthma under control -that's another story.

---Let's see...got kicked out and banned from the thrift store. Why? My husband let his mask slip off his nose (he was sitting there waiting for me) he still had his mouth covered and I didn't have a mask on, even pointed to the signage; People who have trouble breathing or have breathing issues are exempt from wearing face coverings. The management was rude and nasty. Ok fine, yes, King Cuomo you have made a mess out of things with your mandates. Power has gone to peoples heads. 

The police were called, yep. They diffused the situation (I am quite sure they found it amusing-funny thing though-they were NOT wearing masks). Still banned though. It wasn't funny, but now:

AH! I got kicked out of a store! AWESOME SAUCE! Crummy store anyways, way over priced.

---by this time my husband had had enough, dropped him off at the house and I went to Wegmans had to pick up some items for dinner; Onion rolls and Sweet Potato Fries and then to Walmart to pick up my prescription for my inhaler. No problems there at either places. The dr. said, "Just show the inhaler at the door, and leave it at that." Fine...well, Wegmans doesn't have door police, so no problem.
