Good Tidings Sunday Salon

 Bringing more Good Tidings on this rather chilly Last Sunday in November.

Time: 8:32 am

Scene: 32* and sunny.

Drinking: First cup of Breakfast in the Finger Lakes coffee with sweet cream. Since we live in the Finger Lakes region. Yes, its a bit expensive...but well worth it. Keeping it local.

The Hubby and Boy Wonder started hulling up the Christmas Stuff Friday and yesterday. Will continue to decorate. No Pink trees or anything fufu in this house, grin. Stay tuned, more photos this week.

Thinking About: The front porch

I snapped this last night when I got home at 10:15. Since we don't have any outside outlets, keeping it simple. Will show more, hubby hung up the sled and put up greenery. Was way to dark to snap that photo. So, stay tuned.

Listening to: The furnace just clicked on. It was bitter cold last night when I came home, the Hornell Middle School said 27*.

Pondering: I have already been asked, "What's for dinner?" Hey, boys, its only 8:45 am. grin

Pink Saturday

 I am going to try to do some uplifting posts for the month of December...so, let's get an early start, shall we?

We opened at 5 am yesterday-it was a bust. We had 3 officers from our local police department to control traffic etc.. We had 31 people, that was all. By 11 am and until I left at 1:45 we were bombarded. We were forced to only take a 1/2 lunch break--which sucks because when one works from 4:30 am-1:45 that makes a long day and my lunch break was at 8 am. Management sucked bigly yesterday. Horrible attitudes etc. Yeah...oh I did promise uplifting, didn't I?

Pink tree...isn't that pretty? I think the husband and son would probably commit mutiny, lolol.

Heading into December which means hopefully cozy days, snowflakes and hot coco. Have a great day folks, off to work at 3:30.

No matter how bad things seem, just remember to leave a little sparkle. smiles

 Please keep fellow blogger Barbara and her husband Tom in prayer. Both had Covid, Tom was moved to Hospice. My heart is so heavy. I better leave it at that. Our family is praying, sweet Barbara.

Tuesday Meme...

 Joining in with the Tuesday Meme. I did not work at my regular job yesterday, instead, the school called. I did call in to the regular job--and I am sure they are not happy about it. I believe today will be a good day--hubby said, "Whatever you decide, I will support the decision." It was great being back in the school environment-Such patience from all. Much better treatment from school officials and students than my current employer, which I am seeing a tad bit differently today. Spent the afternoon playing "gopher" and getting to know the school better; making sure K-3 students got to where they were suppose to go and monitoring Study Hall for the 6-12th graders. I even got to play school crossing guard, grin, in the freezing rain/snow. LOL---the Vice Principal, "Mrs. Linda, we didn't scare you away did we with all the different jobs today?" No sir. grin

Sunday Stealing

 Finally something I can relate too, lol. Plus. I am just to lazy and tired (got home from work around 11:15 pm last night).

1. What did you do for Thanksgiving when you were a kid?

My mom always cooked big Thanksgiving dinners and in our teen years, when my grandparents moved from Chicago to Florida they would come over.

2 .What’s your favorite family tradition?

I can't think of many from childhood-I always had to sit at the child's table, even when the one year when we took our son to Florida to visit my folks/family. We never went back...it was an awful experience. We vowed to never ever do that again and we haven't.

3. What’s your favorite way to give back and help others?

Pay. It. Forward. It doesn't have to be monetary, it could be kindness.

4. Name one person who can make you laugh, even months later. Why?

My husband, the goofball. grin

5. What is the funniest thing you remember about a Thanksgiving past?

Funniest? I don't know. I take cooking and baking pretty seriously. 

6. Do you have any unusual traditions, rituals or habits around Thanksgiving?

Usually by 4 pm-however, this year it will be by 1 or so. I have to be at work Black Friday by 4 am.

My grandparents...family in general.

9. Is there a family heirloom at the Thanksgiving table? What its story?

Nope. oh wait, yes. My son's pinecone turkey he made when he was little and his turkey placemat he made. He rolls his eyes at me now. grin

10. What is your favorite part about Thanksgiving Day?

Eating and spending time with hubby and son.

11. What is something that was done for you this year that makes you grateful this Thanksgiving?

Done for me? Just having an second income is a blessing.

12. What foods do you usually have for Thanksgiving?

Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, stuffing/dressing, yams, rolls, homemade mac and cheese. 

When we lived in the south we adapted our menu to include homemade mac and cheese, okra and turnip/Collard greens. However, greens and okra are hard to find up here.

13. How has the celebration of Thanksgiving today changed from when you were little?

Yes. Since my family is in Florida and my grandparents long since gone...my husbands family are in Georgia, some here...but all have their own families with no one wanting to "upset the apple carts". So, no one gets together etc.

14. If you could share Thanksgiving dinner today with one person in history who would it be? Why? (Note: it can be a relative)

The Founding Fathers of this country. I sure like to have an educational talking too.

15. What is one wish you have for the next generation as they begin to establish their own Thanksgiving traditions?

Do what you want too do, don't be bullied into this or that. Realize family is important, yes, but at the same time, do what you want to do. I honestly believe that. Like I told my son, you can always come home, you know I will be cooking. NOW, if or when you have a family of you own, and your wife wants to take over, fine with me. Until then, you know where I will be, right here in my home. His friends know they can come here, but luckily, his friends have good families who have great mamas.

My husband did the Thanksgiving shopping and I said, "Are you expecting folks over?" The answer, "No why?" SERIOUSLY?

Listening to... My husband talking about the scope he found for our sons rifle. Today starts deer hunting. But decided, he will give it to him for a Christmas present.

I need to...drink my second cup of Breakfast at the Finger Lakes coffee before it gets cold.

Wondering...how these pinhead governors and city officials can say the things they do and live hypocritical. SAD. If it wasn't so summer like in FL for 11 months out of the year I would entertain moving back. That governor is doing it right in that state.

Praying...for this country to have a "Come to Jesus moment".

Sharing...not really sharing but let me tell you, the baricade's have gone back up at my employer, folks are not really listening (have had enough of this nonsense), I had to recertify my OSHA stuff; more mandates are coming down. Hang on folks, its going to get testy until Jan. Since I am one of handful of people who are OSHA certified, I get the pleasure of standing at the door to force folks to comply with the mask mandates even if you can not wear a mask for health reasons (that is where NY is now); no matter my personal opinion (which NEVER will interfere) you have to comply folks, you just have too. It's not an easy job folks, so remember that when you want to curse an employee out. BTW, cursing me or another employee-that is a reflection on you not me. Just saying. NOT that anyone here would, just saying.

There is an older gentleman at work who always says hello and says "Living the Dream, Miss Linda, Living the Dream!" Well, I changed it on him yesterday and said, "Living the Nightmare, Ron, Living the Nightmare." He stopped and shook his finger at me and cracked up. He said, "That Miss Linda is probably the truth." Our employer is going through management changes and its not good...moral is really low. 30 folks have quit, 4 have been fired. You can't continue to treat your employees like crud and expect good results, just saying.

Did you as a child or do you now like amusement parks, going out to places of entertainment? (theaters, themed parks, etc.)

Yes. During the summers, my dad would take us the amusement parks up and down the East Coast.

Which rides/parks did you enjoy the most or what snack foods to you enjoy when you are out and about?

I love roller coasters, well use too...I also love funnel cakes.

When you were a kid, what activities /games/places brought you the most enjoyment?

Amusement parks/rides.

Would you share with us a fun time or great trip that you've experienced?

Both photos are dated July 8, 2002. We were only a short 2 hr drive to Chattanooga and spent many weekends up there. Back when my son loved trains.

At Rock City, Chattanooga (husband in sleeveless and son standing to his left.) So much fun--my son was squealing and waving "Look at me!!! No hands!"---good Lord I thought that child was going to give me a heart attack that day, that was right before we found out our son needed open heart surgery-had a hole his in heart which we didn't know.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. It's Mickey Mouse's birthday (November 18)...happy birthday Mickey! He reads here, right? Have you ever been to Disney, any of the parks at all?

I grew up in Ocala, a short drive to Disney World and had season passes and use to go all the time.

 Are you a Disney superfan or something less than that?

Free yes and free hotels and meal comps too. But I am not paying, tickets are way too expensive. $250 for one person something is way over the top for me. That's just too expensive and to have to wear masks in the heat/humidity? No thanks.

2. Your favorite place to go when you want to be quiet as a church mouse?

I would prefer a library, but since its still closed, sigh. 

Would those who know you well describe you as more church mouse or perhaps more like mighty mouse?

Mighty mouse, period. Hands down. 

3. The day before Mickey's birthday happens to be National Homemade Bread Day. Did/will you celebrate? Do you bake your own bread? Last time you had hot out-of-the-oven homemade bread? What's your favorite kind of bread? 

Its been awhile since I made bread. I do buy the Rhodes brands. My favorite kind of bread is Pumpernickle or Rye.

4. What's something you might say is 'the greatest thing since sliced bread'?

I use to think the internet.

The school emailed yesterday wanting to know if I would be willing to take on a "perm" status meaning my job would be fulltime. After the day I had yesterday at my day job-I just about walked out. I don't know why the worlds #1 retailer doesn't schedule people to work...this is the busiest time of the year. ANYWAYS...let's just keep it real;

Truthfulness with ones self: If I were to keep it real, I would say the #1 retailer does NOT care for its employees.

Tactfulness: By 2:30 I had had enough and I might have spouted off at the mouth at a manager who told me to work faster to get the people out in front of irate customers because there were NO cashiers just Self Checkout and whom I was the only one working-"Hey, you know I leave at 3:30 right? I haven't even had any of my breaks yet!" Every customer waiting in the long lines clapped and had something to say about that. Seriously, I needed roller skates yesterday (for the record I had been there since 7 am).

Take-charge: Seriously, something has to be done.

Take Pride: I take pride in my work ethic and have regular customers who come in every single day. One elderly couple tried slipping a $20 tip in my pocket yesterday. Oh my gosh, I flipped out...I asked them not to --are they crazy? There are cameras everywhere! I apologized profusely but I can not take a tip, period. No matter how much I am going crazy/needing roller skates yesterday.

Back to my original thought about the school...hubby said, "Are you ready to take that leap of faith now?" Awaiting the school secretary to email back, apparently she had accidently put in my home number wrong-her email stated yesterday I have been called on a daily basis since the 9th...umm...no I haven't-I did email her back in reference to that. ANYWAYS...that is where I am right now. 

Sunday Salon

 I could not get into the Sunday Stealing, so here we are back at the Sunday Salon and like Vee said, "Just feeling that whatever.it.is. between something's gotta give and let me at'im or, in my case, at'er."---perhaps I oughta' go to my corner too. grin

Plans for today: Will probably head over to the Antique Mall. He has old records, you heard that -- records, you know like for a record player. I picked up my Christmas present yesterday; 

My employer is having a great 4 week Black Friday sale. I was tickled PINK to get a pink one, LOL. Hubby and son, not so much, LOLOL. I had a pink one when I was a child until my brothers destroyed it and I vowed I would always get another one-45 something years later. VOILA! $30!!! SCORE! (((my hubby---your not suppose to buy your own Christmas present)))

Pondering: So, it looks like NY will be going back into lockdown. Case in point yesterday; we are back to counting people coming in and leaving now. Normally, the store allows 3,600 people, nope. Only allowed 641 now. Rumor mill has the barriers going back up too...sad truly. It was a mad house until 9pm last night. I think folks know what's coming....So get ready, folks.

I'm listening to...well, work is playing Christmas music...so yeah...Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" is forever stuck in my head now, grin.

I'm feeling thankful for...many things; family, friends, food, full pantry/freezers and so on...and yes, even the detested 1st job. I am afraid we are headed for another shutdown and at least my job is deemed essential.

I'm loving...the cool crisp mornings. Soon, snow will be here. grin

I'm thinking...about this lovely house and 32 acres in Mansfield, PA. all for $289,000. A little rich for our blood...but...so very pretty. Mansfield is just an hour drive south. We seriously doubt the court will allow us to move far--we are conservators for my mother in law (and that is the hold up and since tech. the courts are still closed...sigh).

Cute Sign Find...

 First let me say a deep thank you for the kind comments from yesterdays post. I am going on record stating, "Fauci and Cuomo can stick it where the sun don't shine." Not that we are planning on anyone over, but I am just stating...

Friday's are my short days 7 am-1:30 pm. I was so ready to get out of there...I started off at Self Check Out then around 8:30, I hear, "Yo, Linda, will you trade with me?" Young Jacob wanted off the door. You know, NY has strict Covid rules, someone always has to be on the door; counting and making sure masks are on. Sure thing...I like love being on the door. A lot of regular customers come in on a daily basis. ANYWAYS...I saw a woman carrying out a cute metal sign...so...of course, I had to get one;

Ok, truth be told, she crossed the "barrier" and showed me. She was all to happy too do so. So, I am looking forward to the first snowfall. It was 24* this morning with a heavy frost. HOWEVER, I am NOT ready to decorate for Christmas. smiles

10 on 10

 Good Morning from a frosty north. Cuomo has decided to impose more restrictions. Funny, here we are 8 months into this thing -wearing masks and yet, its still spreading. Think on that one. By the time you read this, I will be long gone to work. Needless to say, I saw this over at Stacy's and I am so stealing borrowing this. 10 Questions about Thanksgiving.

1. Will you watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade? I am the only one who would. For the record, I am deeply disappointed in the "virtual" thought. Football? NOPE. Haven't watched one game yet. Movies? Probably-maybe. Diehard series gets pulled out.

2. Who does the cooking? Me. Fix anything ahead of time? The pies. But since I am working this year the day before---I don't know.

3. What time do you eat the big meal? Usually its by 3, but since I have to be at work Black Friday at 4 am, I told the guys to plan on by 1.

4. Do you set a formal table or keep things more casual? It depends. I try to dress up the table, but honestly, the guys don't really care. Place cards? No, I've never used them. Children's table? We don't have small children or grandchildren, and if I did, that would be  NO. I didn't like it growing up and I refuse to separate the children.

5. Is the food placed on the table or served buffet style? I like to serve it buffet style. We eat dinner together every night (exceptions Saturdays when I work until late). I do not like a table that looks so crowded.

6. Ham or turkey? For Thanksgiving it's turkey. What's for dessert? Usually pumpkin pie and sweet potato.

7. Does your family have a Thanksgiving tradition? We were laden with traditions when I was growing up. Now, I am laid back. The one golden rule I insist on; NO ONE TRAVELS. Now, when my son gets his own family, and God willing, I will continue to host dinners and or she can host it. But until then, I make the rules;  NO TRAVELING.

8. Yay or nay to leftovers? YAY! We all like leftovers. Funny, they don't usually like leftovers, but Thanksgiving is completely different. Favorite leftover recipe? I don't really have one. We usually just reheat them in their original form, though I will throw together hot turkey sandwiches or make turkey noodle soup with the last of the bird. 

9. What will everyone wear? Whatever they want to wear. I do insist though, my son, who regularly wears shorts around the house, he must wear pants and a dress / nice shirt. Dress up or comfy? Jeans or dress pants. I would love to go some place to have a fancy dinner like we use to all those pre kid years ago when we lived in Hudson, NY and drove over to Stockbridge, MA. to the Red Lion Inn.

10. For what are you most thankful for this year? Wow. That's a tough one. I am thankful for having a job in this tough economy right now...well, ok, two jobs...juggling, that is. Thankful for the extra income. Because  last year I did not have a job. So many things to be thankful for right now.

 Good morning from a rainy western  NY where there is talk of another shutdown (not that we are truly open, mind you). Our county is under a yellow warning. I think I have mentioned (or not) I have decided to keep the #1 retailer job for now due to the threats of the schools closing at Thanksgiving.
