Memorial Day

 

Nothing really new to report. We did go yesterday and look at a lovely house on 1.42 acres in the next village over. We actually stayed up into way past midnight discussing this. Offers are not being taken until Thursday. More discussions are on tap for today; there are no other offers so to speak, various reasons on to why (we have a thought, here is why, look closely).

Anyways...not that would bother us, our city is already close to the rail lines.

I don't want to wish anyone a Happy Memorial Day because truly it is not a Happy day, it is a rather somber day to reflect.

What's on Tap for the day? We have 2 houses to go look at later. I know hubby has put on the BBQ/Smoker. Doesn't look like rain today, but it will remain cloudy all day.

What's on Tap for Tomorrow? Hornell is allowed to have the traditional Memorial Day Parade and it looks like July 4th celebrations are on as well. The word on the street is the mayor received plenty of emails and phone calls because all of sudden, things have done a sudden u turn. As for our family we have decided no more masks. Businesses are no longer requiring masks (some are, but none the less, folks are not wearing them). Darn defiance now. Sort of refreshing actually.

Pondering... Better the quality bakeware.

That I bought from Home Goods. Except the 1st one, that my husband bought online. They were under $40 a piece. Bye Bye Pyrex. Not there is anything wrong with Pyrex. So I gave away all my other bakeware and have decided to never go back. These bakeware do not stain and are very heavy. My mom always said to buy quality and they will last. 

Oh, I have kept the Corelle/Corning sets-which there are like 50 pieces. Those will never leave my possession {{grin}}.

I am off to make breakfast. The guys are ready to commit mutiny if I don't, grin.

An Excursion...

 Thank you all for the kind comments. Last night the guys decided I needed an excursion...more like the guys were on a Ammo run lol. We headed over to Horseheads/Elmira (an hour east) to do some shopping. Our little town has no 'shopping' except for the small Walmart aka my former employer.

So, while they went to the Sportsman's Outdoor Store, I had them drop me off at Hobby Lobby. Where I might have slobbered on a lot of stuff {{grin}}.

Dreaming of another dollhouse. I like the red and pink ones. But...settled for these...

Yes, I did splurge and paid $16.99 a piece. I just thought they were adorable. I had forgotten to take photos while at the store. Plus, the guys had found me by then and they were in a hurry to get going ((yes with ammo in hand)).

 I found this cute sign. Of course, our son thinks its hilarious. My husband not so much {{grin}}. But I hung it up in our bedroom as soon as I/we got home. Since I can't get to the beach, the bedroom is done in a beachy motif. ANYWAYS, back to the excursion...

Eureka! Found 5 Guys! Thank you Southern Tier of NY for bringing in a southern staple and slice of Sweet Home Alabama. Hey King Cuomo, Let's not shut down NY again, it sure was enjoyable going without masks and dining in.

It was the most delicious hamburger and fries we have had in a long time. Checking one thing off the To Do Wish List, grin. Then we headed over to Home Goods and TJ Maxx...more on that another day. 

It's been raining most of the day...luckily, on the way home, it had stopped--although it is back to drizzling now.

It is though a very crisp 51* and the furnace is on, on May 29!!!. We wore sweatshirts and jeans today. Hope each of you had a wonderful Saturday.

Reading...nothing yet. I have a bag of books to go through.

Feeling...happy now that at 1:30 today I walked out of my job to never return there again as an employee. The folks that truly mattered were in the break room when I went back to collect my things. All were waiting. It was nice-I told them to stop or I would cry and for the record, I don't cry. Happy that I start somewhere else next week. I have four glorious days to relax.

Thankful...for the 9 months that I was there. But also thankful I am no longer saddled with it. I knew nearly 30 days ago that when management "Told me to go stand outside where I belong" I knew then I had to make a decision. 26 days and two job offers later, I am elated to join a nice family company. I have already completed the Onboard Training, filled out all the paperwork etc. "Welcome aboard" emails and phone calls were nice. Onward to another journey, Lord knows it will be a journey.

Cooking...believe it or not, hubby fried up some Sahlen Hot Dogs. I know, hot dogs...but they were good.

Laugh a Little...

Thinking...somewhere a long the way the last many months or so, I lost the ability to laugh and even crack a smile. Lord knows I have no sense of humor, LOL.

Hmm...so when I pulled into a parking space at the Beauty Salon Wednesday...

Their store front was bare...bare...usually its nicely decorated.

Hmmm...so I was reassured it would be decorated by Memorial Day. I/we shall see...

Memorial Day...speaking of Memorial Day, we are allowed to have a parade here! Hopefully common sense is coming back. I wouldn't hold my breath, folks are taking "this vaccinated folks can go mask less but the rest can't" a little too far---there are several businesses who have decide to mandate showing your vaccination card to get in. Horrible, better leave it there.

For me, currently its a cup of coffee, which I didn't get any this morning due to the fact I sorta dragged my feet and thought about using my vacation time, but I didn't.

Wednesday Memes

 Thank you all for the kind comments from the other day. B-u-s-y is the word here house hunting and work. We are actually thinking of backing off looking for a place to live/move. There seems to be a thought that the housing boom will come to an abrupt halt sooner than later. The bank(s) and the VA will not allow an over priced house to sell, period. I just haven't had the time or the energy to deal with the blog or FB lately. ANYWAYS...how about some memes.

Spending Time...

1.Are you currently reading a book you'd like to tell us about? Maybe a TV program you can recommend to us?

I just finished that book and ended up throwing it across the room. It was a heart wrenching emotional journey. Oh, it was good, it just wasn't what I needed right now. lol---as for tv shows, I haven't had time to really sit down and watch tv since I have to get up so early etc.

2. Are you a Jane Austen fan? So many seem to be. If you are what is your favorite book and who is your favorite character.  If you aren't a fan, is there an author you especially like to read? Favorite character..etc?

 I love Jane Austen and my favorite is Sense and Sensibility

Not so much a favorite character, but I do miss the late great Alan Rickman. I was cheering him on in Sense and Sensibility-I hated how Marianne treated him. Still do.

3.  How do you spend your time during the day?  Do you set apart time to read, watch TV, study?

Work, work, work...makes Linda a very dull person. {{grin}}

4. Have your beliefs changed in your life time? New religion.. new politics? Or are they the same as they were growing up? Do you spend time thinking over the important things of life to take stock in your life?

Right now, at this point in my life I am at the point where "just let me be". I am so sick of the current political scene playing out. I am sick of the false narrative(s) being pushed etc. The last time I checked (being sarcastic) I am a free person/American. It is very disappointing the current sad state of affairs we are in and I am afraid it is us, the regular American who goes to work, pays their taxes etc. who have allowed all this to happen. So there, stuff it {{grin}}. I find myself leaning whole heartedly to the Constitutional Conservative movement.

1. We're approaching Memorial Day Weekend in the US of A...will you mark this in some way? If so tell us how. According to a list found here some things you might do in honor of Memorial Day would be-shop in a Veteran owned business, learn to play a patriotic song, watch the Memorial Day concert, take a virtual tour of the White House, write a letter to a soldier or a soldier's family, fly a flag, attend a Memorial Day parade, donate flowers for a soldier's grave, put together a care package for a soldier, and take a moment of silence at 3 PM (the National Moment of Remembrance)....of the ideas mentioned are there any you will try?

I actually have to work Monday. But I have and will decorate the front porch today. And we have the flag flying everyday, not to mention our wall in the sitting room

We are very Patriotic in this family. We visited the graves the other day and laid flags at family graves and the neighboring graves who have served etc.

So many things; work, the housing market, the current political scene...btw, they are all tied into together. Just saying.

I am a comfort food kind of girl, so nothing new. Hamburgers, potato salad, mac and cheese that sort of thing.

While out viewing two homes yesterday afternoon we had to stop at Maple City Physical Therapy.  Hubby has been going to work out for sometime now and he got a phone call to come in and discuss "Covid Protocol". They are now segregating the Covid Vaxxers against the Non. So, they can not be in the same room and have diff. times to visit the gym AND both still have to mask up. AWFUL, I will say that is the new 2021 vs the 1960's segregation. This pitting folks against one another has to stop, period. You think by demeaning and such is going to push the non vaxxers to get vaccinated is going to work? No, it won't. This isn't Nazi Germany, folks. But, you really don't want to hear this...so I probably should stop. By the way according to Merriam-Webster:

Ok, that is my rant for the day. I will be off shortly to get my hair cut. No house hunting today, taking the day off, period. Summer is upon us here in the Southern Tier of NY. Which means late afternoon storms that do NOT cool off the humidness. 

Nope, No Go Sunday Salon

My husband heard from the realtor yesterday and its a nope, no go on the house. The owner accepted a higher bid. So, that's that. Moving right along. Thank you all for the kind words on yesterdays post. Didn't mean to bring up such memories, but since the husband was discussing it, it was on my mind. As much as I would love to move back south to be near friends and church family, it is what it is.

3. Hubby wants to take a drive. I suggested Keuka Lake. He gave me a look---so I suppose that's a no. {{grin}}

4. I ordered 3 pairs of work pants from Dickies. My new employer requires black pants, no jeans allowed. I normally don't wear a dress pant or twill, but it is what it is. Hubby suggested Dickies 774 work pant. Room to move around in, so he says. 

5. 2 houses that came on the market last night. Houses are moving fast here. Which really has us wondering why.

6. Pondering...seriously, about compromising on where to live. Perhaps our dreams are beer dreams on a water budget...hardee har har {{grin}}

Its finally flip flop wearing here...my feet hate shoes...so at least on Sundays I get to wear flip flops. {{grin}}

Someone at work was saying this to me the other day. I was the only one there to open up the store, yet again. I was by myself until like 8 or so and I had to force myself to learn the cash register at the Self Check Out Lane. AND now, they can use that to get me to do what they want, sigh. I am so 'stupid' at times...just keeping it real. 'Stupid' because I felt used AND for the record, I am not 'stupid', just using it as a metaphor.

When I was much much younger I did skateboard, not anymore. I am keenly aware of the approaching double nickels age. Common sense has kicked in, lol.

I have not seen one new episode of Maine Cabin Masters this season. Why? Because it comes on at 9 pm and since I have to get up at 4 am, I am already in bed.

Hey the Zippo museum is not that far from here; hubby and son have Zippo lighters with their names on it...I have several bakeware that has my name on it and my parents had this done sometime ago--like 25 yrs ago:

8) Also in 1936, a killer tornado struck Tupelo, MS. Have you ever been in a tornado? How about a hurricane or an earthquake?

Yes to all the above...and the latest tornado was in April 27, 2011 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, it was a EF 5.

It was a horrible day. One that nearly cost us our lives. We were in town at Tuesday Morning and Hobby Lobby and the air felt funny, so hard to explain. Hubby said we had to get home, no sooner than we got home, the tornado hit. We barely made it to the storm shelter. 

We did nearly loose everything. Then, my husband got the call; he was called to duty as a Federal Gvt. chaplain. He hugged and kissed us goodbye and he left to deal with the families--and too which he retired from---that took a toll, just keeping it real. That tornado prompted us to move to the small A Frame on the Lake. Here is a great video by the great James Spann and ABC33/40 out of Birmingham, hitting our town.

AND here it is...the truth that slapped me in the face in conversation about moving...

Here it is 10 years later, and we are still traumatized. I personally can not speak of it. That weather event took us 2 yrs to save and move here. One reason why my husband fought to not move back south. He finally admitted it the other day. He said, "Linda, I can deal with the snow and the politics here, I refuse to deal with tornadoes and hurricanes." He sort of put his foot down...much to my chagrin. And since I love him...it is what it is...I suppose at some point the fears will have to be faced.

 

9) Random question -- We're creating an action figure of YOU. What two accessories should we be sure to include in the box?

Ohhhhhhhh....I always wanted a cape, like Superman. LOLOL and some glitter so I can spread it around, LOLOL.

Late Friday Post...

 Been on pins and needles here...we submitted an offer last night on:

The lovely 3 bed/2 bath home. Not getting hopes up too high as there are 5 other offers. 5.other.offers. Beautiful home that sits on 3.7 acres (NOT 3.4 but 3.7). You see the "road" behind the tree line, that's the 3.7. It opens up to a beautiful "meadow".

ANYWAYS, beautiful inside. It also has a full finished functioning walk out basement with a full bathroom. A nice place for a certain 24 yr old to live.

So, that is what is going on; the house hunt is growing tiring and honestly, weary....the inspector gave 2 thumbs up, now we wait. I haven't started the other job yet, awaiting the FBI background check; the job requires it. All is good, she is expecting for me to start June 1.

I am telling you, its not summer here, but it sure feels like it. It was a icky humid 91* day here in the great Southern Tier of New York, which is completely unheard of in the middle of May. Hubby put the ac's in. After several evenings of sleepless nights, it was time. As for the house, if the offer is accepted, we are looking at the middle of August to move.
