Sunday Salon

 Moving along into the Sunday Salon on this last Sunday in July...

Time: 8:30 a.m.

Scene: 72* cloudy and quite humid out (84%).

Drinking: first cup of Breakfast in the Finger Lakes Coffee with Italian Sweet Cream.

What's on Tap for the Day? Nuttin'. I have the day off. After a rather hard day yesterday (loading and unloading 35 packs of water) for 4 hours straight and the other 4 hours moving this or that, I am just worn out. Being the new guy has its disadvantages, especially when the boss man is there. Don't worry about that comment much; I asked him yesterday haven't I earned my stripes yet because it sure seems when he and I are working, I get stuck doing the heavy lifting while the others seemingly don't. He probably thought I had lost my mind. Maybe I did, because it has been quite humid here...miserable as a matter of fact. He mentioned he has been working there for 40 years...come to find out we are the same age and he goes, "Ohhh...I didn't think you were like that old ((grin)) you certainty don't look or act like it."---yeah flattery will get you places, mister. LOL---he thought that was funny and he did let up ((on a note, my husband is flabbergasted I speak to my boss like that, lol---life is short, get over it)).

What's for dinner? I think the hubby is bbqing; ribs and chicken. Yesterday, my employer had catered in Sterns (a local chicken place);

Chicken, potato salad and a cupcake. There was so much other food, I just kept it too those 3 though. Friday it was burrito day. Every single day its something different. They feed us everyday, every.single.day. Usually its the department chefs that my employer employs who makes lunch.

What's on TV? Nothing on Sundays. Well, usually when I get home in the late afternoons on Saturdays its British PBS time:

This coming week: I am working 6 days straight, my turn. We all have to do 6 days once a month. Unfort. with the way things are right now; inflation, gas prices etc. Trucks are not coming in as often or they are late. Yesterday was a prime example-we were finding work to do. No trucks, we were suppose to get two. Nope. Makes for a very odd and hard day, like lifting water. Yuck.

One last thought: Looking forward to...

Our area where we live....I am so looking forward to the change in seasons. The colors should be brilliant this year due to the extreme summer we have had.

Rambling on...

 You know, life is short...so you gotta' smile and keep on going. I was thinking along these lines today when a young employee decided to dress me down for "taking his rack of items and stealing his job." Say what, yeah...whatever ((rolling eyes and shaking head)). My boss is like, "What is the problem? You see a rack with items on it (unloaded a truck and items were placed on a 3 tier rack) and you work it onto the floor. So, what is the problem, Calvin?"  The kid said, "She stole the rack I was going to work on." Rolling eyes by me and the boss. ANYWAYS,  Some of these young folks haven't a clue on life and that is sad. Sniveling little children...sigh. Sorry, dude, your too slow. By the way, Dude, I worked 18 racks today to your 3. I outwork you any day of the week.

Then, when I got in the car to come home my favorite song was  playing ((crank k.it.up!))...totally changed the mood. I wonder what these young folks were thinking? Because a mere 3 months after they played in California, Ronnie Van Zant and some others were killed in a plane crash. Sweet Home Alabama is a great song, have you ever listened to the lyrics? Then Myra's post popped up, which caused me to grin even bigger.

Who knows...lol...anyways...life is short. Speaking of life is short, have you ever heard of Parisienne Farmgirl? She and her family live in Wisconsin.

Been watching her videos, she strives for a simple life and has a "old world" style...wish I could have my own home to do this...anyways...because the good Lord knows, I am old world attitude.

Life is short...smile and keep going...even with the little things; a song, a blog post, a podcast etc. Oh...and one of my favorite sayings at this stage of my life and to which I should of followed some imparted wisdom that was given to me when I was way young and immature...

Scrolling into the Hodgepodge...

 Thank you all for the continuing kind comments...it truly means a lot. Scrolling to Hodgepodge this late afternoon.

1. Tell us about one small blessing you have counted in the past week?

There are so many blessings...but today took the cake (so to speak). I arrived for my short shift and saw right away on my desk (well, Bulk Dept. desk) what needed to be done. My bosses assistant, Dan, came by and said that the 2 boxes of Salt Water Taffy had to be sifted thru and put in separate piles (each and every piece; 14 different flavors). I already knew there were going to be an issue on Monday when I pointed an issue out to my manager and the store manager who were walking together (an employee had mixed all the flavors together and it was a mess)...anyways...so, stood there for 2 hrs and sifted through the boxes. Three racks of Salt Water Taffy; sorta felt like Lucy and Ethel, LOL. It was a blessing because it did eat up 2 hours, LOL.

I did not eat any taffy...but I am sure folks thought it was funny. The beer vendors were giving me their containers to help sort the candy. ANYWAYS, since I am stuck on the French word Connoisseur, I am pretty sure the Bulk Department will be my sole responsibility sooner than later; got questions about nuts, chocolate, candy, trail mix etc.? I'm your man, err girl. LOL---on second thought, Natures also seems to be my thing as well. Who knows, but the last couple of weeks those have been my departments to master.

2. Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14th...have you ever been to France? Any desire to visit or re-visit, and if so what site or city would you most want to see? (pretend for a minute international travel isn't an issue)

4. Something you recently purchased where a coupon was involved? Do you regularly shop with coupons? 

Since I am now employed with the Grocer who has over 75,000 different products and has a Pizza, Sushi, Deli, Meat, Bakery chefs and wine and beer connoisseurs, I used my discount and got $10 off on 2 wonderful pizzas last night (one Pepperoni and one Meat Lovers). Did I mention my employer has chef apprenticeships? We all decided that my employers pizza is better than the Italian restaurants. Even with the coupon, it was cheaper than our favorite Italian Restaurant.

But, yes, I use coupons, since I started working there, grocery shopping has been much better and coupons and discounts are part of my employment package.

5. You have to give something away this week...what will it be? 

I have a box of clothes ready for Goodwill...so clothes.

It has been a very unusual long hot summer here in the Southern Tier of NY. A fellow warehouse employee was working the coffee department today and he said we had Pumpkin Pie coffee in. "OHHHHHH?" was my comment, funny guy, but he bought a bag over and both of us were funny and decided to sniff the bag, LOL. He goes, "Your a little weird, Linda." Oh really? Your just figuring this out? And who else is sniffing the bag? Btw, he bought the bag for himself. LOLOL

Currently...

 I am so confused on what day this (not really, just saying); who has a day off on a Tuesday? (me)...{{{grin}}} No Tuesday 4 Meme. So, I shall do the Currently from Stacy's blog.

Currently...

Weather: 70 and hazy. Will be another hot one today.

The Sounds of Summer: Someone outside is weed eating. The phone has been ringing off the hook this morning; nursing home, attorneys office etc. The paperwork is now ready; the POA is being recognized and their mortgage lender now has us listed as sole ownership for their house-now there can not be a lien (hated to go this route, but both him and her are not well, period. Now the house can be sold etc.). So many legal jargon going on... Ron will be discharged next Tuesday; still not well etc. They have great concern about this, as do we. But unfort. that is todays insurance standards. T's are crossed and I's are dotted legal wise-never thought we would actually have to do this; enforce it aka POA/Health Proxy.

On the TV: Nothing. Between the phone and sending documents etc., no time for the tv to be on. We did stay up late last night and watched Antique Roadshow on PBS.

Work: Plenty of busy. Funny, the part time job has turned into a 32-36 hrs. a week. A raise should be in paycheck on August 1. Can you believe its going to be 90 days? Where has the time gone?

My Kind of Fun: Of course, we did go to Penn Yan (stands for Pennsylvania Yankee) over the weekend. Much to my brother in-laws bad attitude; "What's so fascinating about that area?  You guys keep going up there." Well, its country; full of Amish farms, wide open spaces and its the tip of Keuka Lake. I also told hubby if we could find land, I would consider moving up there (its only 45 miles from here). I need wide open spaces, this city/town living is not for me. There I said it. Although, we only have under 9,000 souls living here in our town, but the crime is creeping in from Buffalo and Rochester.

What's for Dinner? I don't know. When I got home from work late yesterday, hubby was deep frying wings. It was good. But then again, I was hungry. I don't eat lunch or even take a lunch. My employer supplies lunch, but I just can't eat; so hot and running back and forth in the warehouse etc...just can't do it. 

On a Personal Note: I also adjusted my blood pressure medicine to take it in the evening. I was getting so sick, come to find out, it says on the bottle; "No being in heat/humidity or direct sunlight". Yeah, I am suppose to take it in the morning, but since have adjusted it for evenings. No side effects now. Feeling so much better. No tiredness, no upset stomach, no nausea, no headache, no excessive sweating etc.. Gosh it was awful.

Going Through the Camera Roll...

 My son finally figured out what I was doing wrong with my phone (it wasn't syncing)...anyways...these are last 2 photos I had taken of photos of what is on my nightstand...

All those years ago in Chattanooga. My husband and son (husband in  blue and the little guy is our son)---gosh they were so brave, me not so much. When we lived in Alabama, we use to make a weekend run to Chattanooga.

He sure loved trains. That was right before we found out he had to have heart surgery. Anyways, all is well now. So many years ago...nearly 20 yrs now. I wonder where the years have gone...the big 55 is coming up in March for me. Makes me kind of sad.

Sunday Salon; recap of yesterday

 Good Morning from a still soggy Southern Tier of NY.

Time: 8:45 a.m.

Scene: 60* and cloudy and raining off and on, still.

Just saying...although it might be a bit of lying with the whale, but the water is no joke.

Drinking: second cup of Breakfast in the Finger Lakes with Italian Sweet Cream.

Yesterday: 

yes, I do sit in the back--because usually I have my car/SUV during the week and drive.

1. We decided to take off to parts unknown during a monsoonal rain. Passed by beloved Keuka Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) on the way to Penn Yan, which also is part of the Finger Lakes. Its only a short 45 min. drive along side the lake and winding country roads.

While at Penn Yan, decided to stop at the Windmill. A very large outdoor and indoor flea (175 shops) market. I was disappointed on the many made in China products. We did visit the Amish Markets and get baked goods; Blueberry & Peach Sticky Buns and some cookies. I usually love visiting there, yesterday weather wise, it was just miserable and folks were getting on my nerves. There were folks walking in the pouring rain with masks on, outside. I swear, you just gotta wonder about folks.

2. So, by 1 or so, we were hungry and decided to pack it up and get dry. There was a brief lull in the rain and so we at stopped at Oak Hill, a Amish/Mennonite run grocery and Cafe. Where we had lunch; I had a Ham and Peach Panini, hubby had a Greek Wrap and the Boy Wonder had Baked Chicken Panini. Oh and the only place to get Joe's

Oak Hill has community seating and we shared a table with a young mom and her toddler and a rather rude lady and her husband. The rude lady announced she had had her vaccination and if we didn't she wanted our masks on. Hello, we are eating. She was very rude as was her husband who kept his mask on the whole time. No, masks are not required, period. I was rather rude and told her to go sit somewhere else or be quiet. The other occupants of the table agreed. The poor young mom was rolling her eyes at the other lady.

Pondering: All this rain. Yesterday the rain (according to weather reports) was falling at 2 inches an hour and we also had a tornado warning as well. Tornado warning, in NY. Let that sink in. Rotation was spotted 16 miles south of us, no damage, just trees.

P.S. Thinking and discussing plans for after Jan. and where or what we're going to be doing or where...the husband is pretty adamant about not moving out of NY though.

What's on tap for the day? I know we have to go to the grocery store...but as you see (read) none of us are wanting to go anywhere, lol.

In the Southern Tier of NY...72* and cloudy. Quite muggy out.

Work is...everyday I show up with a smile on my face, actually, I don't know anyone who doesn't. My employer is a great place to work. For the past week and a half I have been playing working in Bulk and Natures. Bulk is the candy aisle and everything is in bulk, thanks to the plandemic everything is prepackaged now and Natures is the Gluten free/health food section including the frozen aisles. It seems I am made for those sections and I rather enjoy it and yep, it did get noticed, hence why I am there. What a oxymoronic thought; Candy and Natures, lol. Who knew grocery warehousing would be so interesting and fun. Oh and my co workers are pretty funny; 

I told the guys yesterday I was changing my name and one goes, "I hope not to Karen." Good golly, they bust my chops, every.single.day. ((grin))

Feeling...tired but albeit better health wise. Weight is dropping unbelievably fast and blood pressure is returning to normal. I am down to one full meal a day now, just saying.  

Pandemic/masks...they have accepted my Antibody test and I no longer have to wear a mask. However, I do...since I work with different chemicals, foods, chocolate, detergents etc...its best to keep it handy. With that said, its all good.  It is so hot and nasty and the warehouse is  having trouble keeping up with staying cool/cold. I have seen a lot of my coworkers hiding/eating their lunches in the freezers, grin...I know what your doing, LOL. Their like, "What? You don't see anything." huhuh. LOL

In the kitchen...my husband has been cooking...it has been so hot and humid here...speaking of which, guess where that portable ac went?

don't mind the husbands 'teapot'...sigh

yep...in the kitchen, in the way...I am not complaining...although I can no longer access the deep freezer...which might me a good thing, grin.

On today's agenda...work at 4pm. Short day. Apparently they want me to figure out how to close the grocery warehouse at 8. My outwardly thought that came out of my mouth yesterday while I was fingerprinted and assigned a number(s) for the Cardboard Baler beast thingy was, "Don't you just leave at 8?" Grin---they really think I am amusing-they haven't a clue on scared and clueless I really am...or maybe they do. lol

Weekend agenda...have Sat. and Sun. off and we are taking off to parts unknown...grin

Family Matters...so, Ron (my mother in-laws husband NOT my husbands father) is still in a nursing facility. He has reached his 10 days, unfort. NO ONE is listening to us/ the court conservator--there is NO MONEY to keep him there, although, he should be there. Going around and around; causing undo stress. I told my husband he really doesn't want to hear it, but its time to put their house up for sale and both of them go in, period. It's a sticky wicket right now because his brother/husbands brother also lives in the basement of their house...you see, if Ron stays longer, they can tap into the Social Security; the mortgage won't get paid etc...essentially the state will seize the property anyways. EVERYONE involved (mother and brother and even Ron) are failing to understand this concept. We placed a call into a Senior Advocate.

Price of things...have you noticed the creeping inflation? Gas is $3.19 here. Food and everything else is up. Horrible...and lets not mention the political nonsense going on.

Thankful...for so many things; health, family and friends, food on the table, bills paid etc. (which brings another creeping feeling of how much longer can we do all this? I have this deep deep feeling of another shutdown.)

There's No Place Like...

 While I was sitting here awaiting my family's answers for the Tuesday 4 Meme, I clicked on Myra's blog post about Sunday Letters. Of course, that got me thinking about that old age thought, 

Home? Where is home? I haven't been back to Ocala, Florida where I was raised until age 18-19 in a house on 7th Street. 1,126 miles from where we presently live. We haven't been back in say like 15 years now.

or how about Tuscaloosa, Alabama where we resided for 21 years? Haven't been back in 8 years now.

That/those certainty are not 'home'. What does home look like? Have you really ever truly thought about it? Then, it sort of hit me;

I hope each of you have a beautiful day, It is raining here. But that is ok, we need it.

P.S. Oh keep forgetting (ha!), Ron is in a nursing facility...however, they have to let him go in a few days because Medicare won't cover anymore. He is the same, no changes... That is another story for another time...sigh.
