So...it turns out that it really doesn't matter if I took a day off from blogging or a million days. Why? Because the problems and issues are still hanging around. Let's just keep it real. Jobs are hard to come by, our county has posted a 500% increase since this time last year in unemployment, one has to comply with this or that regulations etc. and No matter who/whom gets elected in Nov. the issues will still be here. There is a deep undertone going on to turn this free Nation into a Socialist/Communist Nation, such meanness and nastiness going on. So...anyways...
The other evening there was a nice Chocolate Zucchini bread on our bench. Made by our lovely landlady.
Off we went the other day to here and there. Found this lovely Homer Laughlin Sugar Bowl for .97 cents, it matches my Homer Laughlin dishware. Some of you know Homer Laughlin was made in Ohio in the early 1870's. Some were even made here in NY. Oh, the sugar bowl is worth $27.
So, after I got my haircut yesterday, I decided to walk across the street to my favorite place; the Antique Mall. The photo really doesn't do this justice. It was so pretty. Oh, folks are really worried about staying in business, making ends meet, the state of things are in, the masks and more mandates are coming down the line. Especially for hairdressers/hair salons. Another shut down of "Biblical proportions" is coming for NY, mark my words. That's the consensus anyways.
P.S. No, not going to see the hair. Still white/gray. Still no haircoloring allowed here. No more cutting it short, the hair is actually on my shoulders now.

Every time I enter upstairs and see the safe, I think of my husbands late grandfather. The building use to be Rockwell Department Store. His grandfather ran the elevators. Many old timers remember Mel. That is comforting to know.
Then, headed over to the dollar store. Cute signs. I passed on them -why? Because they are made in China. I am working hard on buying made in America or other than China.
....and that's the truth.
Love the sugar bowl so much! Glad you found such a bargain! That antique mall sounds neat. I love places like that. I agree...no more made in China if I can help it. I needed a new small skillet to replace one that we use a lot but suddenly everything is sticking to it. (ceramic finish). So I looked and looked for one not made in China. Found one made in Thailand. I hope my son approves. He is the one who uses it the most. He refuses ANYTHING made in China. I hope a wonderful job will open up for you in a place that you absolutely love and you will live happily ever after. Anything is possible with God...so just keep looking up! He has a plan! Love ya. DeleteI'm expecting another epic shutdown too. It will probably only be in DemonKKKrat run States, though. Our Governor Kemp (R-GA) said "no more shutdowns". We'll see. *rolling my eyes* I've started hoarding a few items that might be hard to get if that happens. Guess I'm being silly, but, you never know.
ReplyDeleteWe're trying to buy all American, or any other Country other than China, too. I don't buy much stuff anyway. Mostly just medicine, food, wine, and gasoline. That's about it.

DeleteI truly have a fear of the madness that may arise after the next election.. no matter who wins..people are just ugly these days. Im trying to prepare for what might come.. but as a Christian Conservative..the thought of socialism/communism is scary.

DeleteI have some anxiety about things made in China...I feel mighty conflicted. I try to keep it in the USA, but if I need it, and that's all that is available, I am buying it. Probably, the antique mall is the best place for shopping.

DeleteWhat a great deal on that beautiful sugar bowl! None of our antique shops have deals like that. It probably would have had a $35 price tag on it and they would have "given" to you for $30. Things feel much more "normal" for us here though there are still restrictions and masks, of course.

I'm so glad you got out and about for a while. We still have restrictions, but a lot of shops are kind of ignoring them as much as they can get away with. Restaurants and bars are having to toe the line. The "inspectors" are in place now and handing out warnings or tabbing them with violations and fines.
ReplyDeleteThat sugar bowl is so pretty! I love perusing antique shops. I never buy anything anymore because I'm trying not to eave my kids too much to get rid of when I'm gone! My hair grew long while the shops were closed and I actually didn't get it cut much when they opened. I'm loving it longer so I can just pull it up and out of my way! Have a good weekend, friend!
