Wandering into the Hodgepodge and an update on the House...

Back to reality; aka work. Luckily, it is an easy week today its only 8-12.

1. What's something that reminds you of your grandmother? Tell us why.

My son and I were just discussing this and Grandma Lucy. I miss her, dearly. I sort of fell out of favor with her, I married out of my religion and station in  life...I better leave it at that...anyways...

I am of Croatian heritage and anything that is on tv in reference to Croatia, just warms my heart. Such as Gordon Ramsey who was in Istria this past Sunday. Although, my family is from Zagreb and Dubrovnik.

Then, there is the Sarma (rolled beef/rice in cabbage or grape leaves served with sauerkraut). My late grandmother made the best Sarma around.

Oh and her Torta Praska aka Apricot Torte. I have NOT mastered that yet. Dobar (means good).

2. Is your life currently more 'moonlight and roses' or a little more 'every rose has it's thorn'? Elaborate.

Probably both. No reason to elaborate. It is what it is. See below.

3. June 23rd is National Pink Day...favorite thing you own in any shade of pink?

I own several mismatching dainty tea cups that are pink (not my photo, I am too lazy to take photos right now, lol)

Favorite thing found in nature in any shade of pink?

although, I will have to plant roses at the a new house.

Your favorite pink food or beverage?

I am a self confessed connoisseur of Vodka and whisky. No apologies. That is the only adult beverage I can hold my own on, forget tequila or anything else.

Your favorite shade of pink?

I love all shades of pink

4. Last thing that had you 'tickled pink'?

it's been awhile...couldn't say really.

5. What are two or three words that describe your style.

Laid back/casual, eclectic, traditional (you will never ever find me with my bra straps hanging out or half naked like some women are).

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Our internet had been down most of the day yesterday/Tuesday...anyways, I know most of you saw my post on FB...but when the internet finally came back up, the news page suddenly popped up; the Hornell City Council voted overnight (Monday) to close Bryant Elem. (to which the house was near) and will make it into projects/low income housing. We decided to not go through with the house deal. Full stop. Back to looking. It's all good. Honest. All monies will be returned...and personally, I feel somewhat that the sellers and their attorneys ought to have perhaps told us. Hubby about had a stroke, not kidding. But it will all work out.

P.S. Spoke to my dad last night and he said not to even think about entertaining moving back south just yet. He said houses are going for over $300,000 and it was crazy. He said to hang on tight, he thinks the bubble will burst sooner than later. He said as much as they want us back south, there is just no sense in breaking our necks to get home right now. Ok then...moving on...

  1. Oh man! Sorry about the house but I totally understand! These things happen for a reason. Pink is my favorite color! :) That apricot torte looks delicious! Have a wonderful day! Since we leave for our trip in morning, I won't be around until next week when we return.

  3. Yes, I totally get why you would back out. When it comes to houses - location, location, location! So glad you can get all your money back. Before we got this place, we backed out of another deal two days before closing and lost $1800 - but we are so glad we did. It just wasn't the right place. Things will work out. So glad you are talking to your dad again. Have a good day. Thanks for the update. :-)

  5. Hmmm...interesting...shows how quickly things can change. Praying for the right situation to turn up minus a low income housing development on your doorstep. How good to learn of that before it was too late.

8-12 sounds doable. You must be getting stronger every day. Enjoy this one.

  6. Enjoyed reading your responses to the Hodge Podge questions, Linda. While I am not a fan of pink, it does have its place like pretty pink flowers and blooms. Well that is a bummer on the house, but better to find out now before you had moved in. I do agree the owners or their lawyer should have said something. Have a good day!

  7. I am glad to hear that you are at least communicating with your Dad, and that he has given you some sound advice. Yes, I agree with him. Prices are soaring and it is ridiculous. The bubble will have to burst and then people will be stuck again with high priced homes that they cannot sell. The recession/depression whatever you want to call it all over again. So I would say, buy something there where prices are still realistic and reasonable, and then when you are ready to sell and move south to "retire" you will be able to do so with some cash on hand from the sale of yours and hopefully by then the prices down south will be back to "normal". I am sure there is a special house there for you that is just now coming available. There is always a reason for delays and detours. God has a better plan ahead. Hold on tight.

  8. [me being protective] About y'all moving to Florida ... sooooo, does that mean they are going to start treating y'all better? Hope so. That would make me so happy! I also believe this housing bubble will slow down or burst after awhile. They always do. Right now houses and land are only staying on the market for a week at most, except in those areas that still don't have DSL (internet). There are many "dead zones" in Pierce County. That's shameful. It's all AT&T's fault 'cause they don't give a rats about their customers anymore.
Hey, I'm a HUGE FAN of Croatia. Ever since Itchy Boots traveled there and put the trip on her Vlog. What a gorgeous country. I could totally live there, if they weren't so dadgum close to Russia. Plus it's not legal to own firearms there. The people seem so friendly and the landscapes. Wow. I was gasping at how pretty it is there every time she made a turn in those hills. Nice. We should all plan a trip there some day.
    Love xx

  9. I love hearing more about your heritage and those pictures have my mouth watering! Good to know you're a Vodka and Whiskey sort -- we won't be arguing over MY Gin. (HA!) I was telling Tom about your near-miss on the house situation and he reminded me: When we went to sell our home in Arizona, we had to fill out a disclosure statement detailing what we knew about noise (new fighter wing at Luke AFB) and impending projects -- for instance, there was a planned freeway expansion only 3 houses away.

  10. Wise decision!! That's an indicator as to where the neighborhood is headed. Keep looking but I believe this 'bubble' will break too. The interest rates may go up so be prepared. Patty McDonald

  12. $300,000 is high but you won't find much for less than $150,000. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge. Grandma's food sounds delicious! xo

  13. I'm not a pink lover, at least in clothes. But in flowers - I love it!
I agree the sellers should have let you know. That's a big deal.
I'm pleasantly surprised that your Dad sounded like he wanted you back home. :)
I never knew you had Croatian background. I think that's cool!

  14. Oh man! I'm so sorry about the house but thank goodness you found out before the papers were signed! You're perfect house is out there somewhere! Or down there because if you really have a desire to move south I say wait and the opportunity will come along!
