Thanks, Myra, for the idea!!!
I was thinking...do you remember the Jimmy Buffet song? Yeah...been on my mind...probably time to drag his books out and start dreaming again.
So, what bought this thought back? Probably multiple things such as Myra's post and the dinner my husband made the other day. Since it seems summer is upon us here in the great state of Florida, he has been cooking outside. He made the most delicious BBQ chicken the other night or was it because I was practically starving? Nonetheless, it was very good :).
I sat there reflecting on things; food, the great migrate back home, politics & the sad state of affairs the world is in (not going there!), fashion (mainly what is in my Imelda Marcos closet, lol--remember her?) and just generally how far we have come since our son passed away.
Myra made me laugh over her thought about stockings and formal dress wear and how some folks say women don't look polish if they don't wear stockings. Me, I think bull honky. I could not imagine wearing stockings in this 90* humid weather. Sandals and flip flops have become my norm now even with whatever I choose to wear to work. I have several pairs of Sketchers or Coface sandals and lucky enough, I am not so far up in the food chain that I can do so. Can you imagine having to dress nicely with heels or a skirt/dress in this unbearable heat. No thanks...besides, I have a dr.'s note for shoes. Sure, it would be nice to look "professional"-I think I would probably have to buck the system if I was forced to do so. I simply don't know how folks who are higher up than me can do it. No thanks, my feet aren't made for formal shoes nor a blazer on a daily basis...On to another thought...

oh, how I wish
Working a full-time job that requires me to travel 19 miles one way, but a 45 min. drive has left me just mentally exhausted. I've mentioned it before. My hubby asked me to take a couple of days off soon., with the comment, "Why are you saving your leave time? You surely can't use it if your dead!" Well, now, that is a sobering thought. I have 140 hours of annual leave and 139 hours of sick time accumulated. I know of folks who have over 340 hours...and who refuse to take time off. Well, I took a long hard look at those folks and realized I don't want to be like them. Having a job/career is great, but sometimes one has to have a mental health day. So, going to take a 4-day weekend (Thursday and Friday) at the end of month. Hubby mentioned finally heading over to Caladesi Island off of Clearwater. We shall see...I do know a beach trip it will be. So, changes in Latitudes will change an attitude. At least, for me it will...although briefly. :)

why, yes...yes, I am... although hubby did mention we have to step out sometime today to go see my mother.
On that sobering thought, I will end this post with some questions from Myra:
Thought Completion
When I was .......younger, I thought my current age of 57 was old...now, maybe it is correct, its old...and life has flown by. Life was so different.
By the time I was .......I was middle age and looked back...I have wasted so many years by pleasing others. Where did it get me? Nowhere.
Now that I am .....older than dirt...And on that thought, I am not wearing stockings, no thanks. Those ugly veined legs will have to remain. Sorry, folks, 57 years old. Those years of being thin, starving myself and exercising to remain skinny and such, done and over with. You gotta love yourself no matter what. THAT is a work in progress. Opened that pandoras box. LOL

I do remember that Jimmy Buffet song. I'm with you on the no stockings wearing, Linda. Who wants to feel like a stuffed sausage?!?!?! Not me! I hope you don't have to be out in the heat/humidity long today.
ReplyDelete"...wearing stockings in this 90* humid weather." I used to do that in my salad days (1970s-80s). Haven't worn them since moving to our temporary Paradise. It's predicted to be in the 50's tonight. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI hope the family visit goes better than in the past. Prayers.
Love 💙
Hey there, and thanks for the shout-out! I'm delighted you played along with the Thought Completion exercise. I know I'm in the minority when it comes to 'panty-nylons' (Tom's term) ... for some odd reason, they seem to keep my legs cooler in the summer, or at least my thighs from sticking together. Eeeew, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! No stockings for me, actually, no dresses either. I'm not into spending tons of money to look good and then being uncomfortable too! Reasonable costs and comfort are my thing.
ReplyDelete4 days off will be good for you. Something to look forward to and enjoy!
Enjoy the weekend... had me some barbecue chicken myself.... so many good sauces ou there now, how to figure out which one I prefer.. problems problems!
ReplyDeleteYes, Linda, listen to your husband and take some of those earned days off. Life passes too fast and we need those times of intentional rest to reconnect with God and our loved ones. The beach is calling!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. I am happy to hear you are finally going to take some much needed time off, and I do hope your beach trip will work out this time! I love to think of you being there, enjoying the sand and surf and sunshine without worrying about a thing! Regarding pantyhose, I do wear them with a dress to church just because it feels better to me to do so. I don't care what others do or don't do, I do what feels best for me so that is what I do. If a dress is long enough that I can get by without them, then I won't wear them, but I am not comfortable in sandals anyway because I need shoes that support my feet, and they don't feel right without some kind of hosiery. The rest of the time I am casual in my skechers and capris, and no hose, but then I wear little ankle no show socks. They just feel better to me. But like I said, I don't care what others do. I do what feels best to me. Now, if I had to be outside all day, then no, I would not wear hose. And maybe I'd get a tan, but I just freckle anyway. LOL. Variety is the spice of life they say. LOL. I pray your day tomorrow will be filled with peace and comfort and sweet memories. Mother's Day is not easy for those of us who have said farewell to a beloved child, but I choose to think about the sweet times and happy memories and remember where our son is now, with no more pain and suffering and lots of joy and happiness. That makes me happy deep inside and gets me through. Sending you (((hugs))) and love and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers today, Linda! Good for you getting a long weekend at the beach!! I agree about stockings, though there was a time when I wore pantyhose every weekday. Glad that's done!! Love and hugs!!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda. I am glad that you are taking some time of to go to the beach and enjoy some time with your hubby. Life is too short not to take those days off to be with those we love. I'm with you - no stockings when it's hot. I hope you have a good weekend and a Happy Mother's Day! See you again soon.
ReplyDeleteno one I know wears stockings any longer unless it's footless tights in the autumn and early spring months or tights in the dead of winter. I was a preK teacher of special needs children and yes I wore skirts, dresses, etc all through my years teaching from 1987-2023 but I ONLY wore stockings if my tights were dirty or if my legs were hairy and I had an IEP mtg at one of the local public schools HAHAHA. We were also allowed to wear nice pants, nice jeans just no holes or sweatpants, etc. I think it's great you can wear flip flops to work! I usually wear some kind of sneaker or sandel or summer short boot in the months of April -October. ENJOY that trip to the beach!!
