Again, thank you all for the kind thoughts on past posts. Skipping ahead with some thoughts from this past week...so, let's just keep it real.
Started off Tuesday with that very powerful thought about Not allowing anyone to steal my joy. Tried very hard...truly I did.
A co worker had this on her FB page and I stole it. You see, our employer is famous for stealing joy, simple and true statement. During a terse conversation yesterday, it dawned on me certain forces are holding me back from changing the job position. Why? "NO ONE IS STEALING OUR FRONT END PEOPLE ANYMORE!" is the comment I received. Excuse me, are we all not employees of the #1 retailer here? So, you are holding me back. I find that so frankly, disturbing.
My husband, "Linda, I have been in the back of the store and one can hear you loud and clear with that southern mid-west dialect; your friendly, love to laugh, make folks feel comfortable etc. Has it not dawned on you that perhaps certain people are jealous of your personality? I have also heard certain management hate you because of this."
I think folks truly underestimate me. I had one customer call me a "Mask Nazi with a fake southern accent." Oh truly...rolling eyes.
I might have replied to the person, "Goodness gracious and Thank you Kindly." Only exacerbating the situation worse than it should of been. I might mention, it has been 6 months this past Wednesday that I have been employed there.
Oh yes, the pesky devil. Every.single.day. Oh, where I am going with this...I have no idea. I often wonder if this continuing shut down and mandates is bringing out the ugly in folks. No, folks, even with the vaccine you will still have to wear masks and social distance (which brings up a serious question, Why get the vaccine then?). ANYWAYS, where was I? JOY!
How many of us for whatever reason can not or will not refrain from "slinging back" (raising hand)
Personally, I recite the mantra, "Your not stealing my joy!" I might have said that out loud too, in front of that certain customer who called me a Mask Nazi. Then, I got a talking too...I started to laugh. Seriously, maybe this job isn't for me. Getting a talking to about this or that, every.single.day. Just.keeping.it.real...because someone out there is going through the same thing or something similar.
Every.single.day. So much evil in this world...folks, lighten up. Your negativity has affects on everyone, and I include that (negativity) in myself.
So, onward...today I work 1-10. Yep, hours changed.

A talking to, about saying, "You're not stealing my joy!", oh dear, I know these are trials for you, but I appreciate how you view them, the humor in them, it's refreshing. I think I should road trip over to your place of employment one of these days, and try to come in without a mask....:). Thank you for "keeping it real".
ReplyDeleteLOLOL. I'm there everyday from 7-3:30 except Wed. and Sundays (Fridays until 1:30)...and on Sat. 3:30-10 (exception today sigh). And girl...the moment I see you I will start cracking up, lololol and then I will give you a big hug. Keeping Paul in prayer.
DeleteIt is really hard to steal my joy, but it is probably helpful I am with kids all day. They are so sweet and loving....most of the time. Have a nice weekend.

I LOVE your personality, Linda. And no doubt, so do most of your customers. I'd wager if you stood outside with a picket sign, they'd all pick up a sign of their own -- or turn around and take their business elsewhere.

Oh my goodness! I just said this last night to my step-great niece. She works at one of the Theme Parks in Orlando area...and people keep trying to bring her down...and I told her not to let the devil steal her joy...I told her that those kinds of people are miserable and they can't stand to see someone who is happy and strong, so they try to bring them down. Tell the devil to go back where he came from and just keep smiling. There is so much of this going on these days...obviously with the cancel culture going on those of us who are happy and conservative and have real Christian values in life are going to be hated by those who don't. But Jesus also had these kinds of haters in His life...and He actually went to the cross to die for us so that we don't have to live without joy and peace. We have hope because we know Who holds tomorrow!! So keep smiling and don't let them steal your joy. We know the end of the story...and we win. Amen.
ReplyDeleteThis is so good and many apply to me as well. I love my job, but am working far too many hours, never getting a break and being called to come in on my days off. But, no ones going to steal my joy either!

They are for sure blessed to have you!
So my sister and I went shopping at Hobby Lobby last Tuesday. We entered the exit door because we were parked there. We did not know we were disobeying any rule. We were met at the door by a man who said for future reference we must enter the other door and exit the one we had used. I said, "How stupid." He said, "We think so, too." Then I said, "I don't see why I need to shop at Hobby Lobby in the future." I was genuinely miffed and the poor man was only enforcing somebody's rules. This whole nightmare must end. Somebody's gonna blow and it could be me. 😳 You take care and keep your sunny side up. You'll need it with customers like me and a boss like yours. I think your husband is most astute. She's likely jealous.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I would love to hear your southern accent. Keeping it read helps. Choosing joy is the way to go. I am so thankful I got to retire early and someday you will be retired and hopefully from your dream job. Have a happy Sunday! ♥
