Hodgepodge on a Thursday...

 Sorry y'all. I simply have not had time. The new teacher started Monday afternoon, and I am in the middle of still running classes and training her. Yesterday, I left her in charge while I got caught up on paperwork, writing Disciplinary Reports etc. She has asked me and the boss to keep me on for at least 2 weeks'-so I won't be starting my new job anytime soon.

ANYWAYS...

1. How do you define beauty? 

Beauty comes from within. It comes from one's attitude, confidence, etc. Sure, there are attractive or pretty people, but a lot of them lack the true beauty. Also, some people have a natural disposition that it shows no matter what (beauty) and then there are others who have that disposition in life, no matter how one looks or feels etc., they just have a nastiness about them. (shrugging)

2. Have you ever taken a trip by train? Yes If so, where did you go and what did you think of the experience? We went to Birmingham and New Orleans. We loved it. 

3. Shell shocked, bombshell, bandshell, shellacking, in a nutshell, walking on eggshells...choose one and tell us why you chose it, or how it relates to your life in some way currently. 

Eggshells--been walking on them...especially the last couple of days. I was threatened and this time, it really shook me. Being threatened is nothing new...it happens every single day...but this time, this time it shook me. It took 15 or so officers to bring a girl down-physically...and each of those 15 or so officers took the time to make sure I was ok. It took less than a minute for those officers to get to me. And I was "man handled" to make sure I was ok. I was urged very strongly to go speak to the staff dr.

P.S. Some of you might think that is excessive use of force, unfort. when someone is on drugs, it takes all hands-on deck. And on the previous thought, I have no idea where those officers had come from--less than a minute...wow. 

4. Tacos, pistachios, oysters, clams, eggs...your favorite food on the list that comes in/with a shell? Tacos and eggs. Love them both. 

5. Are birthdays a big deal in your house? They used to be...but now that our son is no longer on this Earthly plain, it has sort of just went to the side...sigh.

Tuesday Meme...

 Sorry folks, didn't get a chance to post yesterday. How about the Tuesday Meme?

1.   What things do you enjoy doing when you have time on your hands? I enjoy Antiquing and "junking"...and some days I just prefer to sit and enjoy the tv or YouTube.

2.   Last minute company coming tonight for dinner! What do you cook? We can grill out or maybe make Lasagna or Spaghetti and of course a desert--probably an Eclair Cake.

3.   You've got a day to do anything, and the weather is perfect outside, how are you going to spend the day? I prefer to spend it at the beaches or in the pool...lol

4.   It's morning and you are asked out for breakfast. What are you ordering? Usually it's either pancakes or crepes, sometimes its 2 scrambled eggs with fried potatoes and bacon (see that question was easy lol).

This is all I can come up with on this balmy humid early morning. At 5 am it is already near 80* and we had some severe storms roll in last night around 5:30. Gotta get finished for work. CYA later.

 Good morning. The weekend sure goes fast, sigh. Weather...currently 74* real feel is 87* at 7:15 am.

Yesterday...it was overcast most of the day (at least on our side of town, lol), so we went and got gas in my truck for the week. Stopped at Aldi and they had this cute rubber fall rug for $6.99:

Surprisingly it goes well with the blue island. SO, I am trying to fall into fall. 😂 --yes, it was an impulse buy. One I really shouldn't have but did. It doesn't help that the husband goes, "You should get that. You want it? Get it."

Watched...two college football games yesterday (Alabama and Florida). And then, some YouTube videos.

Dinner...I made tacos.

(what's for tonight? Who knows)

Later... in between football games, we did venture outside and got in the pool-by that time it was sunny. The pool is holding steady at 87*.

At some point, the deck will go all the way around and we will put in a French door in the kitchen/dining room--now the living room. It has been so hot and humid, have to finish the details/painting, neither of us our in a hurry.

Speaking of bil...he reiterated we are poor white trash and now, he used a new word "redneck"-- yes, we are poor...we might not be rolling in the cash, but we make ends meet and at this point in time, I think it's safe to say, the majority of us are just getting by. 

Redneck...the definition of said word:

a white person of low social status living in a rural area, especially one seen as politically reactionary and unsophisticated (used especially in reference to parts of the southern US). 

Hmm...interesting. Just saying. Then I have to remind myself, he is not a Christian and lives in the world viewpoint where it's ok to be upside down. 

Oh, which reminds me...I couldn't take a photo of it yesterday, but the sign on the Olivet Baptist Church said, "You can’t be of the world if you’re not in God’s Word" Wow, both of us looked at each other and the hubby goes, "I do believe HE is telling us something." Ya think? 😄

Today...church, laundry, pool (before the afternoon rains, I might add).

This time of the year, I do get sort of melancholy and miss living up north...but then I remind myself, Life indeed is better in flip - flops. Yes, things are expensive, but I have a feeling everyone is feeling the weight of all this.

Weather...75* and real feel is 86* at 7 am. 60% chance of rain after 2pm. It never did rain last night, only rumbled.

Corporate Greed:

from Ocala...and I am sure it's everywhere and probably worse in the north. One morning, driving into work it was $3.85, 8 hours later, it was $4.29. Yesterday:

KNOCK IT OFF and I am not just talking about the price of things. It's not just one person-contrary to beliefs. It's multiple entities. The world itself is upside down.

Thinking...for those who are thinking of switching from Blogger, please drop me an email or comment here with your new blog address. I am afraid friends; I just don't have the "oomph" to leave Blogger. For right now, I will just continue to click on the links, even though they are not updated. I have no idea what Blog Feeder is etc.

Concerned...there have not been in any hurricanes. It's weird.

Listening to...the ceiling fan. The central ac just clicked off, some birds outside the window.

Feeling...you know...

I am just done with summer. Summer lasts well into November and sometimes December around these parts.

Moving in... apparently, the mobile home across the street/caddy corner sold for a whopping $220,000. The "boys" (hubby and the neighbors) have been gossiping...I swear these men (hubby and neighbors) are worse than women. They have nothing better to do than gossip in the middle of the street or at the mailboxes. 😄 (now that is a sight, let me tell you, lol)--but we do have great neighbors, truly we do.

Undecisive...about the design of the blog...my brain is telling me fall...but honestly, I just can't get into it. It's a billion trillion degrees here-HOT.

Sept. 11 Chat...

 A Sept. 11 chat, good late evening from a very humid 88* Central Florida at nearly 7 pm. It has been rumbling since 4 pm, but no rain as of yet. We are under a weather alert, so hopefully, the weather will break soon.

...still after 25 years, that memory still burns very much in my brain. Unfortunately, what I have been reading and watching on tv, especially the news, it's just sad...sad because there is a whole generation who are accepting many different alternatives to that narrative. Even have lawmakers giggling and laughing at a somber event. I am also remembering Charlie Kirk, whom I did meet many years ago. That is another story for another time. I digress into other stuff...because this is just too depressing and sad.

From the homefront. We still have not brought out the fall stuff...my brain still can't fathom its September and still 100* during the day. However, my husband has been busy painting the front and back decks.

Still needs work, he started painting it yesterday.

He also made a temporary railing out of old fence posts. It's slow going due to the extreme heat and humidity. Considering what it was before (falling down and dangerous) it's all good. He made the new deck wider by 3 feet. Unfortunately, his brother didn't have kind things to say about it. Apparently, we're poor and white trash-his words. 

Here's hoping I can get into the Pumpkin season sooner than later...it's just too hot and humid. sigh.

P.S. The new teacher who is taking my place was supposed to start today, after many phone calls and text messages from the boss last night...anyways, something happened and she did not show up. I was at the meeting place to bring her into/thru security at the said time and she never showed up. The bossman is off for 2 weeks and he hasn't a clue what happened. He is working to find out...no worries, she will be here when she gets here. She is no stranger to working in a prison, etc. so probably her paperwork hadn't got finished yet, we will find out.

1. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?  

On a scale of 1-10 how much of a fan are you? (10 is never miss a game and 1 is I'm just here for the snacks). 10. Yep, ready...and can't believe it's time for football already. 

Who's your team? Florida Gators (because I was raised in Florida) and Alabama Crimson Tide (because our son was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, and it was in his blood, just saying--if you know, you know.)😄  

2. What's something you currently have a game plan for managing? Managing??? I feel that since we got that slap in the face this past Sunday with the lesson in Hebrews, I really ought not tell the good Lord HIS plans. Want to make him laugh? Tell him your plans. In all seriousness, I can do all the managing, planning, saving etc. in the world, but in the end, it is up to the good Lord, not me. One thing is for sure, we can't take all this Earthly stuff with us, can we? (and if you know, then you know).

...AND on that note, I am no longer going to sweat all this crap at work, I realized it has been affecting my mental well-being. So, I can manage my mental health which also affects the other stuff too.

3. Do you like chicken wings? Hot, mild, or some other flavor? I love chicken wings...all flavors the latest is Mardi Gras that Publix makes and I also love Parmesan Cheese. 

What's a must have food for you on a tailgate menu? Chicken wings, subs, chips. 

I know tailgating isn't as big of a thing outside the US of A as it is inside the US of A, but you can also answer the question this way-what's a must have food for you at a sporting event viewing party? same as above. Wings, subs and chips.

4. Teams typically have strict playbooks they follow. What is one unwritten rule or piece of advice in your 'life playbook' you think everyone should know? Don't ever forget your morals and values and where you came from and for whatever it is worth, don't become part of the world. Wrong is wrong, period. If you know, then you know.

5. This is the week we remember and mourn all that was lost and changed on September 11, 2001. I always include a spot for bloggers to share anything they'd like to share about 9/11. Share as much or as little as you like. I always tell this story and now, since our son is no longer on this Earthly plain it has become important. I was getting our son ready for preschool that day and hubby walked in from work and told us that we were not going anywhere and told us why and turned on the tv. All three of us sat there and our son kept on saying, "Oh no, Daddy, oh no." Even a 3 yr. old-nearly 4 yr old could comprehend what was going on. 

...and I find it absolutely abhorrent there is a muslim running NYC and there is a socialist movement going on in the USA. Again, if you know, then you know.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I titled this post If you know...because a lot of this is If you know, then you know. I apologize to Joyce if this post took a dark turn, it was not my intention. Alot of this stems from serious discussions we have been having etc. on retirement, where we will be living, expenses, life in general and death and taxes etc...etc..just general things.

Tuesday Meme...

Time for the Tuesday Meme.

1. How do you observe Labor Day and were you aware of the background of it? Yes, I am aware of it. We don't do anything special. There was a break in the weather and we got to get in pool for a couple of hours.  By 5 pm, it was storming, that is an understatement. 

2, Many holidays become just a day off rather than a real commemoration of an event. 

How do you propose we can remedy that? Honestly, I have no clue. When we lived up north, that small town would celebrate everything.  But then again, there goes that tradition, morals, values question from the other day. Sadly, families are splintered now.

3. What is the most labor-intensive job or activity you have done? When I worked at Wegmans when we lived up north, the guys were great in the warehouse, ran the forklift, moved pallets etc. I loved that job.   

4. If your income was cut by 30%, could you still survive? Sigh, we have been discussing this, and no, couldn't. Everything is up; property taxes, house insurance, food, gas etc. We actually had a heated a discussion about this the other day. My brain knows I have to keep it going for another 4 -5 yrs, but my heart and body says otherwise. It just seems that life is hard...want some crackers with that wine? What would you do? Sigh...this is why I work and really want to retire...and I just dream of a better way. Just keeping it real.

P.S. I have no idea when I will start the new position-I heard a rumor the new teacher will start today, who knows.

Random Thoughts...

Its Labor Day. So, just some random thoughts.

Let's start off with a God thing 

The Bible lesson yesterday...and boy, did we get slapped with Hebrews 13: 5-6. I kid you not, hubby opened the Bible right to it...no, he did not have it planned. I kid you not, that Bible flew open...both of us have been doing a lot of complaining lately about this or that especially with the cost of living and me wanting to retire sooner than later. Yikes. The real question is, will I get the message and stop my bad attitude? I think we all know the answer to that one, sadly. It is not for the lack of trying, and that is the truth. I fall very short on keeping some of those 'promises'.

Weather...

at 8:00 am it is 75* and real feel is 85*. Calling for 100% chance of rain today. Last night around 9 it came down hard for about an hour, downtown Ocala, according to the weather report, got upwards of 3 inches of rain and flooding in a lot of places.

Thanks for the laughter on some of the comments...yes, I do read the comments and often forget to come back and comment back to them. So, I will do that now:

Florida needs to calm down a bit. 

(Well, Florida really needs to stop accepting all these folks in, sorry Folks, Florida is closed! Because of these folks coming to the free state of Florida, the house prices, insurance etc. are rising at some unbelievable prices, and sometimes, Florida feels so crowded and please, quit voting the way you did up north, we love being free to make our choices etc. sigh--which has been causing some of our bad attitudes as of late.)

let's keep the hurricanes out of the place this year

(Sorry, we need a storm to get this nasty humidness out, although I am in agreeance, I do not like hurricanes or tornadoes.)

Nope, No van life.

(LOLOL--I would like to see USA before I get too old, Annie. Maybe even travel to faraway lands...however, the price of things will keep me grounded/planted right here in Florida. I will live through others like The ScottishMan in a Van.)

Where there's thunder, there's lightning, and they say it can strike 10 miles away! 

(Speaking of that, we were in the pool yesterday evening around 7 and it was thundering and we were counting the Mississippi's and finally, we had to get out because it was getting close.)

You sure stay busy on the weekends, Linda. 

(Unfortunately, or is it fortunately? My husband is retired and could do all this on the weekday, but sometimes, he forgets what is on there is the list (or 'my' list) as we both put things on the list. Anyways, not always busy. Some weekends I just say NO.)

Speaking of...

Yesterday...we had every plan (want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans) to go to the grocery store. Instead, hubby made the detour to Home Depot to price the railing for the back deck/landing. Sigh--we were late getting around because we wanted to spend time in the pool as we knew it would rain later. Anyway, never made it to the store. I suppose at some point today, we will. 

Last Day of...

of my 5 days off. Where has 5 days gone? I have no clue...and honestly, I really do not feel rested at all.

Saturday Recap...

 Good morning. 

Saturday Recap on a Sunday. Why? Because I truly have nothing to say. LOL

Time...well, I have been sitting here for an hour trying to figure out what to say: it's 7:43 am and its 75* real feel is 90* cloudy. Near 60% chance of rain. or as we put it, torrential downpours/monsoons with thunder and lightening. Down in Port St. Lucie yesterday evening, they did have a tornado come through.

Yesterday evening during a lull in the storms, took the photo...

He got the deck/landing built and made it slightly larger. Needs to put up the handrail, sand it, stain it, For the record I did not help as he actually told me to go clean the pool and I did and it was backbreaking work, just saying. 😄

And yes, our backdoor opens out due to the fact we do live in hurricane land. Our front door did too, but when we got new doors, they fixed it to where it opened in, and surprisingly, it passed inspection--they said something about one door had to open out. 

Dinner yesterday...while it was storming, I decided to make Lasagna Soup, and someone asked how I make it and yes, it's like 100* out.

I cheat. Yep. Am I ashamed? Nope.

All you need is:

a pound of ground beef (I use 2 pounds)

1 15 oz can tomato sauce

1  24-28oz of tomatoes (whatever it is)

4 cups of chicken stock

one large chopped onion

Ground/cook the hamburger, add the ingredients and let it simmer for 20 min then add the broken up uncooked lasagna noodles cook another 8 min and serve. Voila.

Today...not so sure what's for dinner...but I will probably make this for desert:

only because someone had set it out as a strong suggestion, LOL.

Someone stole...my book and decided he was going to read it. Yep. 😄

Watched two college football games yesterday...Alabama and Florida and then some You Tube videos.

 Good morning. Let's hope that Blogger has figured out the issues with posting comments, sigh.

Time...7:15 am

Weather...77* and real feel 91*. 70% chance of rain after 12. The weather has been so unpredictable and the usual thunderstorms between noon-8 pm.

Because...of the weather being so unpredictable and just so humid, we will NOT be going to the beach. It can wait...how awful it is us to wanting a storm (hurricane) to blow in and just get rid of all this nasty humidity. Of course, we won't be saying this if and when it happens, LOL.

Knowing...he really wants to really work on the backdoor deck. I can't even begin to tell you how unsafe it is. He goes, "You're going to be my right-hand man, today, right?" LOLOLOL was my response...I also said, "You better get that green pool cleared up, because this girl ain't working outside without that pool."

All this rain we have had, has turned the pool green. Sorry forgot to take a photo of the emerald, green pool before he dumped the chemicals in it.

Went to... Ollie's yesterday morning and got the required pool chemicals. All this rain and humidity have been just awful. It cleared up a bit, and we did get to swim yesterday afternoon, then of course the rain hit yet again, and it turned green again. So, he dumped more chemicals in last night. I haven't been out yet to take a look. He also let the pump run all night. He assures me it will be ready for me, LOL (dang it, he truly expects me to work out in this nastiness, LOL).

Also, got haircuts and went to Publix. Sure, did get cupcakes, you know it. LOL---You know what I like about Publix? It is like you walk in and everyone knows your name. Oh wait, they do. LOL-I told hubby perhaps when I do retire, I will get a parttime job here. Little did I know the store manager was walking around and he goes, "We would welcome you, Mrs. Conley." Well, then. LOL

Reading...yes, I am actually reading a book.

Have you ever wanted...to just take off and live in a van? I wish I was that brave to just quit the job, vlog (if I ever had anything interesting to say, lol) and live like this. The Scottish Man in a Van:

With talk...lots of talk...I think the both of us have just had enough of the rising costs of home insurance and property taxes. The thought hit both of us, 'Why are we paying property taxes? Renting the property to the government?" It seems like a colossal scam on the American people. Just our thoughts. It seems that is the topic as of late: taxes.

Thinking...food for thought...are we the only ones that think that way? Just wondering.

Speaking of food...tonight's dinner will be Lasagna Soup and rolls. Yes, even on 100* days.

Thursday Photo Recap...

 Hey, it's Friday! Looks to be another rain day.

So, let me do a Thursday recap...

--Hubby came in yesterday morning around 9 and said he was done working outside due to the extreme humidity. Even jumped in the pool to cool off. It has been so humid here, more so than usual, so it seems. So, he said he wanted to head down to the Villages in Oxford as we haven't been down there in a couple of months. I say "down" there-its only 20 min. from where we presently we live. They are putting up new subdivisions, condos, apartments etc...and it is in a different county than ours and we have discussed moving down there-taxes are way cheaper. The Marion County housing market is way too much for us. Sigh and that folks, is the truth.

--1st stop was our favorite antique place. We love this place; the owners are wonderful and they always remember us and they like to have real conversations with their customers, yesterday was no exception. Another couple who are sick of the cost of living etc. Hubby did buy a Zippo lighter, he collects them. No reason, he doesn't smoke. But he rehabs them, cleans them and puts them on his shelf. This all started when he was in the Marines. He has hundreds of all kinds of Zippo Lighters. Yes, even a Playboy one.

--Second stop was the thrift store and didn't buy anything. 

--Third stop was Marshalls where my eye spotted Halloween plates/decor. They were so cute. I didn't buy any.

Even hubby thought they were pretty cool. I will admit I might have gotten a little giddy over these. I did buy and stock up on my favorite facial cream Altaire that I had ran out of last month and they are usually $30 at a department store, and at Marshalls, since they are remodeling the store, they marked it down to $4.50-so I put all 3 boxes in my cart and hubby goes, "Now, that is smart." Also, my Paul Mitchell shampoo and hair products were on sale as was my Cetaphil, score...and I only spent a total of $36. On that note, there is this new thing going around and I noticed these items too, Korean Glass Skin Regime and Snail Cream. I simply can't put snails on my face--or even the thought of it. Just saying.

Ok...By this time, it was like 1:00 and we were hungry. We had no plans whatsoever to really stop to eat because I wanted pizza for dinner...and I had remembered there was a NYPD Pizza nearby. So...

--Fourth stop...NYPD PIZZA, we have never been there and we were not disappointed. Boy, this pizza bought back memories of pizza back in NY.

You can get slices and the slices were huge and hubby suggested we bring home a supreme pizza. I am such a cheap date, $32 for lunch/take home pizza. Hey, it pays to be a senior citizen now. LOL

So, then we headed home because it was so hot, humid and it was thundering pretty good...why in the world do they make roundabouts in rural areas? It is beyond me. Sumter County just finished doing this...crazy.

No sooner than we got through the roundabout, it started pouring. 

Our last stop was Tractor Supply to pick up some items for Ms. LilyBelle who is suffering from an ear infection, her poor ear...I waited in the truck. I was so not getting out in that thunderstorm.

Yes folks, rain and sunny. That is Florida for you. It could be raining on one side of the road and not the other. Yep.

Thursday Thoughts...

 Good morning from the swamp.

Time: I did not have to get up at 3 am for work...so I slept in until 6:30. It's 8 am now. What have I been doing since 6:30 am? Been sitting here trying to figure out what to say. LOL

Weather: 78* real feel 88* and overcast, 43% chance of rain sometime today. Beach trip can wait until tomorrow, although it will be the same or near the same at like 30%...it is August, so rainy season (See below for another explanation).

Listening to...the central ac kicked on and hubby outside pounding away--see below.

Memes...I was looking at the Tuesday Meme, and I had started answering it and then erased it all. I am just not into it...and honestly, there is so much hate going around in the world, one really has to think about that word tradition because the political season is upon us here in America and those traditional morals and values no longer matter. Why? Because it boils down what is being taught and those families no longer have bonds. Us that do have those traditional values are being persecuted for those who believe in multiple sexes/genders, wrong is right, murder of children is ok, socialism and communism etc. I said what I said. drop that mic.

**Oh boy, am I ever going to get hate comments now. 

The neighbor...yesterday bought over some pallets, he works for a warehouse, and they use these heavy-duty pallets for the products. ANYWAYS, knowing my husband wants to finish the privacy fence and fix the back deck, he dropped them off--well, he walked them over, lol. So, hubby is outside (since it was agreed upon, well, truth be told, I knew he wanted to work on this project, so I told him the beach can wait). So, he is taking them apart and will rebuild the back door deck. The deck off the backdoor is in serious need of love and whoever put up that unsafe rail (it was here when we moved in) will be rebuilt as well. 

What's for dinner? Probably late lunch. Told hubby I wanted to go out for real pizza, not the frozen kind that is in the freezer, LOL. Boy, did he give me that look. LOLOLOL.

Watching/Watched...not anything really. I did watch The Five yesterday and that was it. Honestly, see above Meme thought...just done with all this nonsense.

Need to...stop over to my folks at some point and drop my mom's birthday card off. Hubby does not want to go...and told me to go by myself. That is another story for another day...I think, after 42 yrs. of being together, at some point, just admit defeat and move on, both sides. No disrespect, it is what it is.

Late Evening Hodgepodge

 Good evening, I hope all is well with you all. Here, at 6:50 pm, the skies are rumbling and a threat of another storm is on the horizon. How about the Hodgepodge?

**please excuse any typos, I am very tired.

1. What's something you wanted to do this summer that you never got around to doing? More beach time, of course. LOL 

2. Were you the student who sat in the front row or hid in the back of the class? I preferred to sit in the back when I was younger, then when I went back to school at 50, I sat in the front. If you could go back and take one high school class again just for fun, which would it be? I really should of have paid attention to shorthand, so, yeah, that.

3. What characteristics do you think are essential in a good teacher (this can be applied to anyone who teaches, not just classroom teachers)? Funny...because I had to bring my boss in this morning and he spent an hour and half defending me and laying the law down aka "come to Jesus" moment and he had an inmate hauled out of there in cuffs and thrown in confinement...I thought for sure he was going to blow a blood vessel, sigh. The level of disrespect some of these women have, is just unreal, hence, why I called him in to have one of his famous talks. And now, he knows what we teachers go through every single day. We work in a very dangerous, uninviting and hostile environment.

Anyways, a teacher should have honesty, courage, kindness and patience of Job. Which we all know patience is not one of my virtues. ANYWAYS, teaching and working in a prison takes a special person...that is all I will say...and probably a bit of cuckoo for cocoa puffs. Which I will own up too. 

4. September 2nd is National Grits Day. Have you ever eaten grits? Yes, Are you a fan? Yes, if so, how do you like yours? I love me some cheesy grits. I am allergic to shrimp, so no shrimp. Would people describe you as 'having grit'? Yeahhhh...well, my late fil used to say I had gold kahunas...yeah, we will leave that one alone. LOL

5. What's something you're never too old or too young to enjoy? a good glass of cold chocolate milk.

I have made it to my 5-days off...Sigh, it looks to be a rainy day tomorrow so the beach might have to wait until Friday. I will make it there before Monday. That is for sure. have a great evening all.
